Does anyone have an idea what is going on with this Leitz filter??? Its marked as an "A" filter but has the appearance of a peach or salmon colored center filter... Has it just faded around the perimeter? Thanks!

Never seen such before.

I assume this to be a gelatin filter cemented between glass panes and vapour induced dye degradation.

The Leica color conversion filters of that era came with warnings that they faded fast -- unstable.

From the Hove Leica Accessory Guide (2nd edition) regarding various filter designations, pg. 112
"Post war a series of filters were produced for use with Kodachrome:
Type "A", conversion filter for use with Kodachrome Professional Film type "A"
outdoors in daylight, engraved "A"."

Perfect! Thank you sir!!! Out of curiosity I checked on eBay and saw several other filters (some different types) with the same problem... I should shoot some chromes with it... might be interesting. (But probably not...lol)

This is a wartime filter made by/for Leitz NY as substitute for Leitz Germany products, and probably a glass-gelatin sandwich.
