Question on Canon FD-mount SLRs

I know, my Mamiya RB67 doesn't have a meter since I have the "just glass" prism finder so I'm used to working that way. And I agree that the meter messes up badly much of the time so it is annoying to use the AE-1 really as the only thing you can do in AE mode is press the backlight compensation button to get a 1.5 stop increase in exposure. If you want to use it in manual mode it is not really that useful, simpler to use the FTb which at least puts the shutter speed and relative aperture via the needle in the viewfinder, with the AE-1 it suggests an aperture in the viewfinder but you have to look at the aperture ring to see where it is set. I know, I have to do this on the Mamiya but since it has no meter it makes sense.

I think that modern Sekonic, Kenko,and Gossen top of the range digital light meters are much more sophisticated and accurate ways of measuring and arriving at the correct exposure than any TTL meter that I've ever used, and it gives the user the opportunity to consider the reading before setting the camera controls.
