I would also be very interested in a factory visit.

FYI, Keith Cocker above has kindly placed a link to this thread on the Leica Users Forum

Could be difficult since quite a bit of it is done in the dark. I suppose you could sit looking at a black computer screen while Simon tells you about it. :D

That's no match for the real thing. You'd have to walk around in a huge, huge, huge (did I mention "huge"?) darkroom with only the occassional safelight to get close to the real experience. And then there the "multimedia experience": the great smell of the paper... like opening a 100-pack of 8x10, only then at least a 100.000 pack; the vastness of the darkness, tripping over people from previous year's visit...

Honestly, there's nothing like the real visit!

(Did I mention the storage room of the emulsion? Hmmm, you gotta love that smell!)

:surprised:

I'd like to make the trip from Ireland if there's space.

Ooooh, if there is any room left I will travel from NL specially to visit ! The group-size of thirty could probably be filled several times over.....

In case it is applicable, thank you to the generous guys who might pass up a second/third visit to let us first-timers in.

Hi Simon,

Hello Simon

We met last year in Louis Lumiere photography school with Ilford French staff. I will be happy to visit the Moberley site. June isn't the best month in term of free time for teachers but I am fully motivated by the idea.

Best regards from East Paris

I'd love to join, but unfortunately won't be in the UK beginning of June.

Will you do a visit next year?

How about a virtual tour for those who live in Chicago?

The Ilford factory is spitting distance from Manchester airport.

Dead Link Removedfly direct from Chicago O'Hare to Manchester.

Question for Simon

Simon,
Can you tell us what the situation is about the Factory Visit. Do you have enough people to go on with it.
I asked you this because I need to look after some (cheap ) flight tickets to the UK.
Thanks.

Likely date ?

Hallo Simon,

Originally the date of Friday 6th.June was mentioned as a possibility. Is that still on, depending on numbers etc, as you mentioned above ?

Also, if there is a final decision being made on a visit going ahead, please could I ask that it is six weeks, or more, in advance ? That makes the transport and time-off arrangements much more do-able for us living in nearby lands . . .

Oh, and if it is 'on' I will try to bring along my 17 year old nephew, who has recently discovered silver, so that would be two persons total.
