Question about quick release plates for the Pentax 6X7

I am trying to look for an L-Bracket for this camera but it seems very rare to find the RRS version. Does anyone know of an alternative arca swiss compatible L-bracket? I did see a regular QR plate but I want to see what other options there are before I commit to that. Thank you.

Personally, I've never seen a camera-specific L-bracket for the P67. Have you considered the universal rails from RRS, if they still make them. I bought these for my Fuji GA645Zi years ago when I want to use that camera on a tripod.

Kirk made a P67 specific L bracket. I have the model on a search on eBay, and in the last year I have seen two come up for sale. Both were auctions, and both were bid to over $500, so I decided that it just wasn't worth it.

It says its for the Pentax 67 II, but according to what I have read, it fits the earlier models fine:

I got really lucky and managed to pick up this Kirk L-plate from a UK seller for about £80 a year or two ago. I can confirm it works well with earlier models and does make tripod use much easier, although you will need to take it off to change batteries.

Before that, I used a simpler quick release plate for P67/P645 specifically and a generic L-plate. The generic L-plate ended up working better on my Makina 67 due to lighter weight.

I gave up with the cost & hassle and bought a heavy duty ball head with a 90 degree stop instead.

I do remember those universal rails, but I never really looked into them. Currently what I am using is a ball head that goes to 90 degrees as stated above. Maybe I will cross my fingers and stumble upon that P67 specific L bracket .

Yes I bought that combo fairly recently. I've only used it a handful of times so far, but it seems to work well.

To answer your question, yes you can configure it so the left side of the camera is not in contact with the L bracket. However if you do this I noticed a tiny bit of flex in the bracket is possible when in portrait orientation; whether or not this would cause an issue with vibrations during exposure I'm not sure, as I didn't want to find out. Configuring the bracket so the side of the camera buts up against it eliminates this issue, and the camera door latch sits slightly behind the bracket so it can still be operated. The only other thing to mention is that in this configuration the knurled shutter speed wheel on the 6x7 metering prism rubs a tiny bit on the bracket when you turn it, but still works fine.
