I just bought a very nice F from a reputable dealer that I have had great experiences with in the past.

My question: Most "modern" cameras when you load them, you press the shutter and wind on to #1. The F did the following: press the shutter, wind, press the shutter wind. I went far past 1. It would go to the whole role I think.

Is it right to just "stop" at 1 or is it supposed to stop automatically at 1, like the F2, F3, etc.

Thanks in advance.

You stop at 1, or else just wind off two cycles then start shooting for real and ignore the counter.
F3's don't automatically stop either, at least mine does not, nor do any 35's I am familiar with.

Until recently, none of my 35mm cameras stopped automatically at "1" (excepting a couple of point and shoot models).

In comparison, a couple of my 120 cameras do wind continuously without the need to release the shutter until the counter reaches 1, when they stop.

The index mark on the F is very easily knocked out of adjustment (just loosen the three screws on the cap, and rotate it anyway you want). When I load my F, I fire off 2 blank frames and then I'm ready to go. There is no "automatic stop" on the Nikon F.

I stop at 0. Worse comes to worse, I have two shots at the same subject.

The developer usually sends me 37 prints.

Jeffrey:

Which OM equipment?

None of mine (OM-G, OM-1, OM-1n, OM-2s, OM-2n) do (or in the case of the OM-1, did).

Do you use a power drive or motor winder?

Just curious.
