I have not read it but have seen small portions and it seems good to me but some friends say it becomes overly technical along with the awkward translation.

Now, this is all hearsay as I do not have a copy and have not read large portions of the book personally.

So, take it as you wish. I would recommend it in spite of the comments above.

PE, thanks, as usual. I have googled Tadaaki Tani (to discover if he had a personal homepage or whatever). I didn't find any, but I found some interesting threads here on APUG where you were explaining issues similar to those presently discussed.
It appears that his book is not readily available (read: on Amazon), and on the OUP site it says "printed on order" ( http://ukcatalogue.oup.com/product/9780195072402.do ) . I will search around for an used copy, maybe that could be a cost-effective way for me to learn something about photographic sensitivity. As for the awkwardness of the translation, I will have to content myself with it since I am not able to read Japanese...

Quantum mechanics describes how something can be in more than one place at the same time. In Colorado they sell certain recreational products that help you do that. I'd rather keep my eyes on the road.

The answer depends on the observer.

The parallels with "circle of confusion" definitely come to mind.:whistling:

That is an awesome documentary, in every sense of the word. I'm impressed by the chemists and scientists who were involved in this process.

The only part I wish had been elaborated on was the "sensitivity speck" - just what is that mysterious object?
 
He said Silver Sulfide or Ag2S. This is put on the grain by adding Sulfur (from additives selected from a number of chemicals) and heating the emulsion to create the speck.

There was another one of these films posted here that was very good as well, and BTW, Kodak signed another 2 year agreement for Cine film today.

Ok, thanks. I must've missed it since I had to watch the video on my phone during lunch :- )

So has this "speck" been part of only relatively modern emulsions or does it date back much further (e.g. 1800's)?
 
Oh - ok - this is just the sensitizer coating then. Sorry. I guess I just fooled myself into thinking there was some other special element added to the process.

Chemistry is not my long suit (that's a card game reference :- ) )
 
Well, it is a gamble whether you get to the peak in that diagram in Mees. It is real trial and error some times.
