My Quantum 1 will no charge, so I need to know what quality replacement power packs are out there for a self-change?

My flash lighting is mainly Vivitar 283 & 285 Flash heads, with a few other brand units used as small placement and fill, and
that pack is something I need to keep working, as it is so helpful.

Cheers!

I am unsure if the Quantum 1 takes the same battery as the Quantum 2 or Quantum Turbo, but I have replaced the batteries in my Quantum 2, as well as in two Quantum Turbos, using the Powersonic 832 8V 3.2Ah, available on line.

Just checked...
Available thru Amazon is the Powertron Battery Replacement QB24 QB26 for Quantum 1 or 1+

but I have read that the original battery put in at the factory is the Power Sonic PS-628 and can be had for less (including thru Amazon)

IIRC the quantum 1 uses 3 2v cells wired in series. Each cell is the size and shape of a D cell battery. They are commercially available, but not inexpensive. I have not found a 6v battery that fits.

Cheers!

I may have to go to to Batteries Plus, as a last resort.

This is the cell that makes up the pack linked to above:

If you have electronics experience you can likely build one for less than the cost on Amazon.

Yes, that's the one. And, as far as I know, they are the only one making that cell in that form factor. Later Quantum batteries can use more common off-the-shelf lead acid batteries. I've thought about trying to replace with a Lion RC pack, but the charge and discharge characteristics are so different it's beyond my very basic skills.

Cheers, I've seen at least one good video on YouTube on what is involved and, from what I saw, the most difficult part of this repair, is getting the battery pack off the bottom of the leather/cardboard case.

I'll give this a shot and, if I do a good job, I can start looking around for other Quantum 1 (+) packs, so I can expand my Vivitar 283/285 flash "studio"!
