[Q] DIY Battery holder for nikon F5 -- has anybody done it ?

I think he means outside of the home you live in because of the fire risk.

Ahh..indeed, on the concrete floor of my garage with fire blanket over. Thanks on the print! It was my first design - I used Shapr3D. I printed it at my office (resin-based dental printer)
 
New to the forum and saw that you have managed to reproduce the 8xAAA battery insert. Any chance you could share the file with us?
 

This looks like a promising solution. Any progress on the file, by any chance?
 
I've created a new Version 2.0 of my Nikon F5 battery holder design, much simpler to build and assemble than the original!

This design addresses the challenges from the first version and makes the build process much more straightforward. While you'll still need some specialized tools (like a spot welder), they're reasonably priced and worth the investment for this project.

I am not sure but I think the rechargeable pack MN-30 has a pin to switch the F5 to 8fps. I have the external power cord and I can supply any voltage and current the F5 needs but I can't get 8fps. So can you build a pack that has the pin? Because today's Li-Ion batteries we can have high voltage no problem.
 

You are right, I just checked and the MS-30 has a single pin and the MN-30 has two pins.

Seems easy to do, I can update the model for this.

Do you have more information about those pins functionality? because it seems to work ok without the single pin.

 

I don't know. I read the service manual but found no info on that. However giving higher voltage and current capacity without the pin doesn't make the F5 run at 8fps. So I suspect it's the pin that does it. How much does it cost to have one of those? I would like to try one with the pin even if I have to supply the power extenally. That way I would know the voltage and current draw needed to make it runs good. And then I will pick the kind of battery to put in there. I prefer to use LiFePO4 if it's OK than Li-Ion.
 

I just updated the model with the two pins and printed and tested if it fitted ok. It seems to fit exactly where it's supposed to. I still have a few photos in my roll, so I will have to finish it and build a new pack in the meanwhile before I can test it.
