Pyrocat MC: HP-5 and Tri-X

Hi:

Does anyone have any remarks regarding how these films look and behave in this developer? Dimentionality, sharpness, highlights, shape of curve, micro-contrast, grain? I usually use FP4 but will need a high speed companion. Formats will be 6x6 and 6x7 and prints up to 16x20 on VC paper. I like to standardize on grade 3.

I now use WD2D+ with FP4 and graded paper and love how it looks. Very "alive" tonality on the print but the negative forever holding highlights. I just need VC flexibility for back country travel and hand-camera shooting. Individual rolls may have a variety of contrasts.

I will use TriX over HP5 in any developer as long as it is around.It's a classic in every regard.

Going by your described preferences, TMax 400 is going to land closer to what you want than either of HP5+ or Tri-X.

I use tri-x and tmy with pyro-m as my main 6x8 and 6x9 film. great results. TRi-x has the slight edge in tonality, for me, but TMY is one of the best all around films made. try both and use them as you prefer.

I shoot both at 200, develop in pyro-m 72 degrees for 15 min. agitate for the first minute then 10 seconds of agitation every 4 minutes after
