Hi All,

Searched through a bunch of old posts on Pyrocat, but couldn't find any specific development time/temp recommendations for Efke R50 in Pyrocat-HD using minimal agitation (1st min, followed by 4 inversions every 3 mins). Any users of this combo out there? I would love to hear, too, any opinions regarding this combo of materials.

As always, thanks for any help provided.

Sorry if I'm being dense, but I've looked at three different articles on unblinkingeye: 1) Pyrocat-HD, A Phenidone-Pyrocatechin Developer, 2) Testing Pyrocat-HD, and 3) Sandy's Intro to Pyro Staining Developers. Nothing here gives any info on any Efke film type. Could you point me to a specific page on unblinkingeye?

Try about 8 minutes at 72F with the 2:2:100 dilution. This will give an approximate CI of around .65. Time based on rotary (constant) agitation. For devleopment in tanks with intermittent agitation increase time by about 15%.

Thx Sandy I will give it a try. I always thought the 2:2:100 was for contact printing. I guess this Efke stuff must need a real kick in the pants!

Well, I assume you are printing on VC silver papers, and you need a fairly high CI with a staining developer for that, so that is part of the reason for the kick.

I generally recommend dilutions based on what would be IMO the most reasonable time of development. You could use the 1:1:100 dilution but for the same CI that would take about 14 minutes.

For Azo give about 30% more time than what Sandy has indicated here.

The 50 speed Efke film is very close to PL100 in terms of development times. The 25 speed develops much more quickly than either PL50 or PL100.
 
I have some tests with KB25R and KB100R partial stand N developement. I use 2:2:100 dilution
Kb25R 16 minutes at 70F
Kb100R ASA64 for 12 min 70F
KB100R ASA100 for 14 min 70F (Shadow detail loss)
