Pyro 510

Recently bought a small electronic scale, which had bundled with it chemicals to make Pyro 510. I have never heard of this one, searched around and found a few that were using it, but no mixing instructions.
Came with Ascorbic acid, Phenidone, Pyrogallol and a bottle of a gloopy substance labelled Tea (sure 'aint Earl Grey).
Anyone used this brew? Any details on mixing it, and recommended dilutions etc. would be greatly appreciated.

for mixing heat the TEA and be patient

dilutions range from 1+100 to 1+500, my times are about 10 minutes for most iso 100 films @21C 1+100.

510 is a very energetic developer. I found that it yields too much general stain unless it's very diluted. However, I've used it for semi-stand development with great success. I was so impressed with the results I got that I ended up sending Jay a print made from the negative.

Tmax 400(TMY/TMY-2) and 510 pyro is a great combo IMO. Super sharp negs, lots of contrast w/o loss of middle tones. Great stuff!

a little heavy on the stain however, but you can dilute it 1:200 if you want, and it reduces the overall stain somewhat.

That's Triethanolamine. It's an organic compound, used in this case as a solvent. A developer made with an organic solvent instead of water has outstanding keeping properties, because if there's no water the developing agent(s) cannot oxidize. TEA has the extra benefit of giving a basic solution when mixed with water, so it can also act as an accelerator.

You can get a pre-measured 510 pyro kit from Artcraft in NY State. All you have to do is mix it up. Great developer, cheap, lasts forever, versatile, and IMHO, yields very nice negs.
