Hi

I currently process Ektachrome in the Bellini kit 6.5 min first developer at 38 degrees C (100F)
Should I push the film one stop (to beat the bleak winter light where I live) can anyone suggest how much extra first developer time? 2min?
I´ll make a test strip on 35mm, ofcourse, but some guidance would be appreciated to know where to start.

Thanks
Olle

Welcome to Photrio!
I suspect 2 minutes might be a good starting point for actual push processing.

However, you state that this is to compensate for the bleak winter light. Firstly, I'd consider not compensating for this at all, and just using the light as it is. "When life gives you lemons..." Bleak winter light can have its own appeal; I'd just exploit it.
Secondly, it's technically not a push if you expose at the regular speed. Do you plan on shooting at a higher speed (e.g. 200) as well? That would make it an actual 'push' scenario - as opposed to merely overdeveloping.

Stockholm (as an example is at 60 degrees North. so in January in Stockholm, the sun rises at 8:47 am and sets at 2:55 pm. So non -existent might be better description than just Bleak. :0

Never having been there, I would still imagine that the sun would never reach anywhere near overhead. although on a sunny cloudless day, I would guess that the light might be TOO Contrastey and on a cloudy day even exposing at 200 is going to be a challenge.

(I live near 45degrees north, so I do experience some winter daylight issues.)

Thanks for the replies and the welcome.
I should have writen that I ment to shoot it at 200. It´s a TLR and I can shoot it at 1/30 3,5 if I concentrate but only just. One stop extra would be great.

One of my darkroom guidebooks suggests a 30% increase in first developer time for a 1-stop push. That corresponds with a 1m 57s extension from a normal 6m 30s development. Even with how fickle E-6 is I don't think an extra 3 seconds will make any difference, so I'll second @koraks opinion that an extension of 2 minutes is a good starting point.

Take this with a grain of salt as I have never actually push-processed any of my film.

Did test strips yesterday (exposed at iso 200 and 8min 30s)and the came out on the dark side but not terrible.
Will do a second attempt with 90 s extra in 1st dev.
Do I need to extend the color developer bath, too?

Thanks mshchem for the welcome!

No. Only FD time is extended in E-6, when pushing.
Keep in mind these times are for fresh or replenished developer.

Thanks Samu! Just what I wanted to hear. Only one variable to account for!
Just did a second test strip FD 10min and the frame came out looking very good through the projector! Good reminder of the chemicals.

adalugi, I use a jobo tank and do manual inversion. My 1liter kit states 6-7min first developer
