Hey,

I Just developed(dektol 1:10) a roll of 400TX and when rinsing I noticed they had a purple shine on them. From previous experiences with T-Max development I thought the film was unsufficiently fixed, so I tried fixing an extra 3mins, while already fixing for 8mins, but the film seemed to get even more purple.
Anyone got any idea's why the film might be purple and/or how to fix this?

Thanks

Purple Shine on Tri-X Negatives

Did you use hypo clearing agent? How long was your rinse?

no didn't use hypo, rinsed for 30mins, now going to check them.

You may need to put the film in back in the fix for a 2 or 3 mins and rerinse.

They look fine now, after the rinse...No experience with Tri-X, ah well, thanks all

hm I wonder, since this is an old emulsion, would it need more then 30mins washing with running water(+-25°C) ??
I have some Hypo Clearing Agent laying around...

Thirty minutes is more than enough. I wash for ten minutes and that's plenty. You've done nothing wrong. Tri-X does have a slight purple tint to the base material that does not wash out. That "re-fix to get the sensitizing dyes out" trick works only with TMax films. It works because most fixers have a good amount of sodium sulfite in them which is what does the job.
