Careful: the German Glycin is the English glycine. So it is the amiono acid (CAS 56-40-6)

For developer you need English glycin (N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)glycine) (CAS 122-87-2)

Its amino acid. Photo glycin is different and expensive.

This misunderstanding is fairly common. Always compare the CAS numbers. The developing agent Glycin is a tradename and not a chemical name and therefore should always be capitalized. This can help a bit.

Photo Glycin is rather expensive here or at-least it is expensive for me.

This is the stuff you want but you will need a company with a VAT number before you can order from them I think.

Whatever the reasons it seems its cheaper to order from photographers formulary in the US and pay the import duty and vat on it rather than buying it in Europe.

Note that Glycin/Glycine has many different forms some of which are used as a food supplement and not the same as photo glycin. Take care to get the right stuff.

Having researched this before the right stuff is CAS No: 122-87-2 and when I spoke to a chemist at TCI UK he did some checks for me to see if any other forms of glycin could be substitued for this one and came back with the answer that he could NOT find any reference to any substitues for it. Doesn't mean there aren't but I got a negative answer from a TCI Chemist.
