I have a had a business trip flung upon me next week and would like to know if any APUG'rs have been to this area. It is about 85 miles from 'Bombay'

I will be there for 7 days and will have 2 free days to myself so would like to get some photography in. Any recommendations?

Never been there , I am totally jealous , Bombay is my dream destination, have an excellent trip

My office mate has been to Pune. She is from India. She says it is very beautiful area. The weather is nice this time of year. Cool and not rainy. You should drive or take the train from Bombay and not fly. Drive is better. Many mountains and rivers and there are many nice places in the area. Sounds like a tourist spot for India as there is some temple there. Pune, itself, is quite a large city.

While I've not been to India myself, I would strongly urge you not to go. Certainly, from the descriptions I've gotten from my Indian friends, one of whom is from an area outside of Mumbai (Bombay), it's a most interesting country, inhabited with mostly wonderful people. But, there is a rumor that they don't take kindly to Phills with two ls. So, my suggestion would be for your company to hire and send me instead. They just love Ralphs. (lol)

Obviously, I'm jealous, but wish you a great trip, nonetheless.

While you list 4x5 as your primary format, I think I'd suggest a convenient 35mm or MF (rangefinder, perhaps?) instead, so you'd be more mobile, and have less to deal with while travelling. Take lots of film, and share your results when you get back.

I have never been to India either, but my officemate is from Pune. He recomends 3 potential areas. 1.) Khandala, offers natural landscapes and lots of mountains. 2.) Shanwar Wada, Historic British Fort and historic items. 3.) Mandai, a Farmers Market, if you will. Lots of color and lots of very nice people.

I was there several years ago - as recommended you should try to get to Khandala - spectacular gorge...several hotels built on the edge of it. I don't recall much of anything else about Poona itself. But if you've not been to India, prepare to be astounded/horrified/stunned/enchanted. All at the same time. I want to go back so bad I can't see straight

Yep that about sums it up but I think enchanted is pushing it for where I was. Unfortunately spent majority of time working which did not help the photography either.
