Has anybody heard of paying AUD$40.95 for a single roll of Provia 400X?
That's not a misprint. I had a roll plonked down on the counter in a shop and when he told me it was $40.95 ... I gasped — that's not an amount of cash I would splash for a single roll of film; this film had an optional targeted job, instead it will go to Provia 100F. I would be very interested to know what the retail price of this emulsion is in other places e.g. USA / Europe. There is no discontinuation of it here (Australia) that I can see in Dealer Bulletins from Fujifilm.

In Switzerland, which is generally regarded as expensive:

Provia 400x 120 - 9.90 CHF [12 AUD]
Provia 400x 135-36 - 16 CHF [19 AUD]

In Italy

Provia 400x 120 - 6.90 EUR [10 AUD]
Provia 400x 135-36 - 13.20 EUR [19 AUD]

That's not Vanbar again is it?
Even PW in Adelaide are only charging $24/roll, although they seem to have place the 120-size in the 35mm section (not that I'd pay even $24, cheap-shots on ebay or mail-order from the US it is for me)

I think you should instead start another thread about how AUS/NZ photoshops just don't like film photographers and would really love to see them trade in their gear for digital. Their prices are absurd.

Don't say that until you see the prices of new digital gear.
When the 5Dmk3 came out I priced it with the 24-105 kit lens, then I priced it in Hong Kong plus the plane fare, guess which came out cheaper? (Actually, an EOS 3, scanner, and a few hundred rolls of Velvia turned out even cheaper again, I chose that and here I am).

At least film you can get shipped from OS under the $1000-mark and avoid import duties...

Yes, but the fact of the matter is that anything "speciality" in AUS/NZ usually == rip off.

If you can find it, it's about £12-£14 for roll of 135/36 in the UK (I think ~20 AUD) or ~£35 for a 5-pack of 120

At the moment you can get it for about AUD12/roll (135/36) shipped anywhere from Holgadget.com (HK based)

Vanbar have it listed at $26.79 but none in stock, between the two of them they will cause the death of film in Australia.

Sorry that is for 120, yes even Vanbar has it (35mm/36) list at $42.21.

Yes, 135/36. God help us. We're being screwed, big time.
But these places will not be getting my business in purchasing film. Cheap_shots_AU will. To go, to go, to the online shop I go.

I just bought 10 rolls when the announcement of discontionuation hit for about $14.60 a roll (plus a 5 roll Propack of 120 for $51.25.)

Right now B&H lists it at $16.09 for 135/36. $10.25 for 120 and $49.95 for the 5 roll 120 Propacks. It's still the most expensive chrome film I know of, but far less than you're paying down under.

40 dollars per roll of film? That's insane. Probably somebody trying to profit from the discontinuation Fuji announced.

It's the only E6 film I've shot in the last few years, and I think especially from medium format it's an impressive film, but not 40 dollar impressive.

Very, very interesting. ProPack of 5 rolls on FleaBay listed as AUD$84.75, which works out at $16.95 a roll. That's better!

Sombody posted a press release from Fuji Japan on A.P.U.G recently that said that 400X is discontinued Worldwide.

Having just looked at my Australian Fuji Film catalog I can confirm that Fuji Provia 400X in 35mm is not more than $20 per roll for account holders. Anything over $40 dollars a roll is price gouging...your paying for the film, their rent....the shop owners kids to go through university and so on.

Thanks and don't worry Stephen. That mob didn't get my business. And will not get my film purchasing business in the future.
EDIT: Cleaning out the deep freeze and I found 4 rolls of Provia 400X in 120 format... but that's not the format I need for my static sky / star trails project...
