Protarlinse --- Can I Mix Series VI and Series VII Cells??

I have one each Zeiss Protarlinse cell in 22cm Series VI and 29cm Series VII. I assumed I could use these together but it appears this may not be true. Any advice is appreciated.

According to Kingslake, the series VI was nearly identical to the Dagor, and was only manufactured for a year or two and then discontinued when the series VII was introduced. The problem here is that the series VI was discontinued several years before Zeiss started using the Protar name. The series VI was called Satz Anastigmat. Maybe someone had a bad day in the engraving shop that day, and the cell is actually a series VII.

Thank you, desertrat. I goofed. After photographing these and taking a closer look I can see that both are Series VII but one appears to be of older construction. Does this affect compatibility?

Not sure what you mean by "older construction". Let me know, I might be able to help. If I'm reading the serial numbers correctly as 277890 for the 29 cm, and 254840 for the 22 cm, well these are not very far apart.

Thank you, David. I didn't notice the serial numbers. I guess you're right. One just looks older than the other.

Now all I need to do is find a nice dial-set Compur #0 shutter with mm scale.

Why do you think that a modern #0 shutter will give the right cell spacing? I ask because these are early WW-I vintage lenses that may have been made to fit a different shutter?

According to this http://cnum.cnam.fr/CGI/redir.cgi?M1192 your two cells combined make a 145/7.

Hi Dan... I mean an OLD dial-set Compur, not a modern rim-set. I openly admit my ignorance though. What shutter should I look for? That link is broken, BTW.
