Wow just wow. I had read the opinions saying its a shock when you first see a 6x6 slide projected but even pre-prepared it was still a shock. I described it to my wife as like looking at a giant really bright colour rich print.

I picked up a really nice condition Rollei P66 with the 150 S-Heidosmatt lens at a bargain price of ebay and a pack of new Gepe AN glass mounts.

Still though I have some observations which give me some questions I could do with some help on.

Firstly I thought at first that the lens has very poor sides/corners but noted rather the plane of focus is somewhat curved such that one has to make very fine adjustments and then there is one point where the whole image is more or less sharply detailed when eyeballing the screen. Is this typical or just a feature of this lens?

Second question on the glass mounts. Most of them seem to come out of the packet with either dust or some other thing stuck on them that won't blow off so I am cleaning them with PEC pads and lens cleaner but this is incredibly laborious, did everyone else have to go through this? I guess I am just going to get used to it.

Very old glass mounts (old new stock) show haze at the panes.

That out of focus of the image you describe can be found at transparencies that can move within their glassless mounts and thus bulge when heating up.
To counter that in 35mm Leitz made special lenses designated CF (curved field). Another way is to clamp the film within the mount or to use glass mounts.

But you seem to have used glass mounts, so I'm puzzled.

EDIT: On the net I found two posters discussing curved field with the 2.8 150, one showed it, the other sample did not...
