-Upcoming Exhibition: "Flawless Lakes" by Takashi Arai-
Takashi Arai's first US show, "Flawless Lakes" features 20 daguerreotypes plus large scale color prints. These peaceful images were taken in Hokaido in the northern part of Japan. The opening reception for "Flawless Lakes" is November 12th at 7:00pm.
Takashi Arai's visit to the US will coincide with the Daguerreian Society's Annual Conference which will be held in Philadelphia this year. In conjunction with this event, Arai will be teaching a workshop on creating daguerreotypes at our studio November 7th and 8th. We will also be hosting a panel discussion with Takashi Arai and other contemporary practitioners on Friday, November 13th.
-ONWARD's Steady Growth-
ONWARD '10, our annual competition for emerging photographers, has been gaining quite a bit of followers since the launch this month. On Facebook alone, we have reached over 800 fans in two weeks, and the momentum is still going strong. Check it out and explore the network of ONWARD photographers.
We are already getting submissions from photographers in the US as well as other parts of the world. The first submission came from Stan in Seattle. We will soon feature his work on the ONWARD blog.
Additionally, we are working on a few feature stories related to ONWARD including interviews with Debbie Fleming Caffery, this year's juror and Andy Adams from Flak Photo, (http://www.flakphoto.com), our media sponsor this year. Stay tuned for these new blog posts via Facebook or Twitter!
-Affordable Digital Lab Underway-
We are steadily building a digital lab for those who need access to high-end digital equipment. We are about to introduce a workstation with an Epson 9880 printer, a Cezzane 14x22 flatbed scanner, and an Epson 3880 printer as well. This equipment will be available on an affordable hourly rate. The details will follow soon.
-Inquire Within: We Are Hiring!-
Our educational programs are growing and we are actively expanding the range of classes and workshops that we offer. We are currently seeking instructors looking to share their experience and knowledge with others on a contract basis.
Qualified candidates should have teaching experience on a college level or in a continuing education setting. Proficiency should include the workflow of digital photography from shooting in Raw files to processing in Lightroom. A good understating of layers and masks in Photoshop is also mandatory.
We are also seeking proposals for new workshops. Our workshops are usually held on weekends and are topic specific providing intensive learning experiences for participants. We are always looking for new ideas for exciting workshops.http://www.projectbasho.org/membership/
All proposals and resume submissions should be directed to jobs@projectbasho.org.
