Program on the cape...

Drew,

Sounds like some great ideas. The location would be one reason I'd come down. I'd suggest making sure there is some shooting time as well as some lecture/demo time. Regardless, I'd probably stay two days there so that I could get some shooting time in.

Regards, Art.

I agree with Art - I want some shooting time, too. Some nice marshes, beaches, etc...
Is this going to be in April or so? I'd like it to be not too late in the spring. Things will get busier and I might be moving well, for hopefully good reasons, but I'll miss this crew and all the get-togethers.

Art, you picked up on that, huh? Yup, for love and the darkroom. Near Pittsburgh. I'll just have to get the western PA APUGers together like the NE crew. It isn't definite, yet, but it's very likely.

...finalizing plans over the next couple weeks, I hope. It's still on for March 10th. I'm still thinking a traditional/digital round table, then just go over trad equipment and processes. Maybe a saturday workshop for the locals, and on Sunday, apugers can tour around photographing from Chatham to P-town. Does anyone have a van? Maybe we can rent one.

yes there are plenty of places to stay....I can do some research for those wanting such info. Right now I'm trying to put together the program and the people to lead the various topic discussions. ok, later....

I am also very interested in this program. Last winter I shot a few hurried frames at Lighthouse Beach in Chatham at low tide. Lots of interesting sand formations. I'd love to get back there and do it right.

Whatever happens on Saturday the 10th (some can make it...some can't) ...why don't we plan on shooting the Cape as a group on Sunday the 11th?

Check this site to find lodging http://www.capecodlodging.com/ ...and pray for mild temps!

Prospects are looking good that I'll be able to make it up from CT that weekend. Calendar looks clear of birthday parties, basketball games and the other family activities that can cramp a weekend. Haven't been out that way in a few years. I'm no stranger to the beach in winter, but most of my sojurns to the cape have been in summer. I hope the stars continue to be aligned!

I'm thinking of coming up on Friday and staying through to Sunday. Some of the places that look promising are:

More places at http://www.chathaminfo.com/

It would be great to for everyone to stay at the same place, but I know that's not going to be easy with different tastes and budgets. For example, the ones asterisked above is where I would stay.

ok, back from LA. This is a "almost" complete list of activities for the 10th:
1. Round table discussion of digital/traditional debate w/ Bob Korn Cape color film processing and digital printing service, Jon Vaughn, Cape landscape photog, Jennifer Stello, Cape portrait photog, and one or two people from NEAPUG to lead discussion.
2. State of affairs of traditional photography - Ryuji (NEAPUG out of Boston)
3. Review (hands on) of various types of photographic equipment...still available - we could set up 35mm, medium format, large formot, etc for attendees to look at and review.
Lunch
4. at the same time, mini demo's and discussions of portraiture, architecture, landscapes and darkroom demos will be carried on.

need to now who wants to be involved....?

Drew,

First - thanks for your efforts in putting this together. Sounds like you might be getting to the "herding cats" phase of your efforts I'm about 80% sure I can make it. Any ideas yet on start time/schedule? Just trying to plan on Fri night or Sat AM drive. I don't feel like I can offer much in terms of technical expertise in leading a discussion or demo, but I'm certainly willing to tote my gear along if there would be an interest in looking at what you can do with 30+ year old stuff (c330f and some M42-type 35 mm cameras & lenses) for your hands-on review. I'd also be interested in getting some feedback/critiques on prints if that fits into the schedule. Also, I've got a Suburban, so depending on schedule & whether the family joins me for the trip, I can provide transport for a few photogs & gear if we venture out for a shoot.

Regards - Brian

Anybody from around this neck of the woods able to offer a goofy photoger a ride? I will find out more info by tomorrow eve if I need a ride or not.

If anyone needs to spend less for lodging, stay away from chatham and look at Dennis, Yarmouth, Brewster, or Harwich.

maybe my wife and I will meet up with any/all of you at night at the chatham squire...just across the street and a few feet down from the Inn. Thats where you will catch the flavor of a drinking town with a fishing problem.

I'm seriously thinking of coming on down -- I suspect there's more than one story here. I'm also on the lookout for portfolios to review for future editions of MAGNAchrom. I'll probably leave in the early am of March 10th as it only takes me about an hour to get to Chatham.

I'll be there Fri eve around 6:00pm. I am staying at the Courtyard Cape Cod Hyannis.
