I'm thinking about putting together a workshop for both neapugers and others interested in film and wet darkroom processes. I'm looking for a venue on cape cod such as the Chatham Creative Art Center (I've worked on projects with them before) and try to get local businesses to be part of and support us (let them speak to us and provide products for sale at the event) There are many film and "D" photogs on the cape but they are hidden away...I want to bring them out and get aquainted with apug and for some others, re-aquainted with film. The CCAC has a darkroom but hasn't been used in quite some time. Before I get into other ideas, I want to see if there is any interest from you people. In the meantime, I will check with businesses about any interest with them. If we do this during the winter (which is quite mild on the cape) the full timers on this spit of land will be looking for things to do and I would expect a good turnout....plus for those off cape, b&b rates are quite a bit lower and you and spouses can get away for a day/night/day mini vacation.

Winter on the Cape is actually quite nice. You can find a place to park then.

Yes, I would also be interested. I am drawn to "off-season" locations. I spent one week in Mid-December hanging off the rocky cliffs of the Maine shoreline.

Depends on when you schedule it... after the first of the year would be good for me. I would love to visit the Cape during off-season.

ya, I'm thinking January or February. I'm touring the facility next week (Wed) and the cost for the day is only $50...if you're a member...so that is cheap. Plus I'm sure business people will cover that and more. I want to try to get D photogs into film again (if they were before) and those who've never been involved in it something to wet their whistle about! More later.....

Count me in! I haven't been to the cape in years and would love an excuse to go, especially off-season...

off season is the only time I ever went, you could actually drive from Falmouth to Hyannis in less than a day!

unfortunately, I live 1000+ miles away now, and sure do miss the cape, spent an awful lot of my mis-spent youth there.

ok, viewed the CAC today and darkroom has been used infrequently over the past year or two...but everythng is there. I would go in there and clean things up, take inventory, throw away what (chemicals) has expired, etc. I'm thinking a workshop on film as the main theme, maybe comparing film to digital for first hour, then go into camera and darkroom equipment. In the afternoon, attendees could, if wanted, go into the darkroom to see a demo on processing film and. Maybe the CAC would offer reduced memberships for those attending. I'd send out notices to local arts groups, 4 C's, and the viewfinders club as well as local high school art teachers, and newspapers. I spoke to CC Photo and Art and they might be interested in supporting us. More later...

ok, went to the CAC yesterday and have met with some others on the cape who are interested in a workshop in Feb. We'll be cleaning things up, taking inventory and throwing away what (chemicals) has expired, etc. We're thinking of having a small flea market on the side for stuff we might want to rid ourselves of..plus some of the enlargers that aren't needed in this darkroom...instead of thowing them away. We'd like to know if there is anyone out there (or maybe I can find someone down here) who'd like to speak on different topics such as film/digital debate including state of the traditional film/paper industry, APUG organization, types of photo equipment that is still available (whats good, average prices, etc,) what is needed for a basic darkroom in your home, incl. ways to dispose of chemicals, and last but not least, what opportunities are available out there by way of photo clubs, gallery event opportunities, and education for the aspiring photographer. Attendees could then go to several different mini workshops such as basic LF shooting, architectural, portrait, and landscape photography or go into the darkroom to see a demo on processing film and making prints. I'd handle advertising the event as well as finding sponsors. Again, we're thinking sometime in February. Still more later...

Ok, we're going with a later date...Saturday, March 10th -9am to 5pm. I want to organize, first, a round table discussion of the film/digital issue and allow questions/ comments from the audience. Then have several mini sessions that people can move to, including child portraiture, family environmental (beach, since we're on the cape) portraiture, landscape, architecture, large format, etc. This all can be arranged differently beforehand....as the need arrises. Afternoon, the darkroom will be open for a processing/printing session...at present, we have a local printer who's willing to do that aspect. If any apug member wants to attend he/she can host one of these mini-topic sessions...just let me know. I'm going to just facilitate the activities. Drew

First and foremost, its a place for the New England apugers to meet... 2nd, photography is being forgotten down the cape...no classes or workshops are being held, or very few. I'm trying to jump start that. Third, I want to get, what once was a pretty active darkroom, active again. 4th, bring about an interest in film photography again. Hows that?

target audience: anyone who hasn't gotten into photography and those who are on the digital/film fence.

Ya, I'm starting to think that there is too much....maybe too scattered! Glad it's in the early stages. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated, though I'm now getting some help from down here. Maybe scale it back to just a neapug meeting and a general invite to any/all photogs on the cape to join in. But, what subject matter would we cover? Maybe just an environmental portraiture class....? ...then in the darkroom? God, thanks Suzanne for yanking me back down to earth. Now...whats next? Where's the coffee?

As someone who has spent very little time on the Cape, I would be most interested in just having some locations where we could shoot, then get together for a nice coffee and discussion...... Darkroom access is not a big priority for me given that I have two .

If the time/cost commitment is workable, I'd be happy to contribute some of these. As this event seems to be aimed for general audience (rather than APUG chem geeks) I wouldnt get into technical issues, but I have several areas I can help.

* Why I still shoot film for b&w work
* Japanese camera and emulsion industry in past few years
* Environment, safety and darkroom work
* Art of nightscape photography
* Archival processing, storage condition and image permanence

* Anything else I have on my website, made more easily digestible (where possible)
