Which is probably more important for color chemistry than b&w chemistry.

Yeah, most of the time for B&W I'm working at room temp, or very close, for everything involved so...

Even with C-41 I just run the drum "dry" in the tempering bath for a minute or two. No issues.

I simply don't see any upside in a pre-soak unless the developer itself calls for it, like RolloPyro where it's chemical bath, not plain water.

I get good results with the pre-soak in my Jobo. To my satisfaction it ain't broke so I ain't fixin' it. :wink: YMMV.
