processing old film and b&w reversal

I have two questions I hope can be answered.The first question has probably been answered to death.In a nutshell,processing old b&w film involves rating the film at half it's normal ASA and using a solvent dev. with BZT or Edwal's Liquid Orthazite ?. This next one goes to Photo Engineer:I've got a few of the old Direct Positive kits from Kodak for Panatomic-X film and I'd like to modify the process by eliminating the fogging dev(FD-70a) and light reversing the film.What second dev. do you recommend to replace it ?.

I processed some B&W film sort of recently and we estimate it to be from the 70s. Just used Diafine - it's good for these situations where you don't know what's on there because it will develop to completion so what you have on there is what you're going to get. I've used my diafine for c-22 films too with good results.
