Canon Canoscan 9000F

This is probably the worst piece of equipment I have ever owned and I have owned gear since 1960!!!! I want to scan some old negatives. Had an Epson that finally wore out and broke. Thinking Canon knew what they were doing in Digital I got the canon 9000F flat bed with film scanning capabilities. Using a Gateway computer with windows 10 the canon ,it scans and looses the scans. I follow all the directions but it never saves the images to any program like My Pictures, Photo shop Elements or it's own file the so called Image garden. Hours are wasted scanning and rescanning and never getting the images into any file. In order to get some prints for a neighborhood celebration I am going to have to set up my darkroom and print two photos! I am pretty convinced it has to do with the canon software program and am just about ready to toss the whole works and get a Epson., I had no problems with the Epson or their program before. Am I the only one having this problem with Canoscan?

Download Vuescan for free and see if it will do a better job. If you are happy with the free version you can just keep using it, or pay for the pro version and get all if the features.

I sympathise with your problem. I have only ever owned one Cannon item of digital equipment and that was a flatbed scanner too. it was so slow, once I hd set it to scan a strip of negatives, I could go away and make a coffee for the wife and I. Even then it wasn't finished when I returned. Never again!

scanner headache

Thanks for the tip. I will look into VueScan .After hours of uninstalling and reinstalling and finding updates and patches I finally got the scans into the computer by circumventing the canon software and going to Elements. But the print quality from a little HP desktop printer is so poor I would be embarrasses to show them. So I will make the prints in the darkroom .A decent printer is probably beyond my budget even if I could find room to set it up. I would only be using it for my digital camera shots. Mostly I shoot on film.
