Suddenly my meter is displaying E when I try to take a reading. The subject was neither too dark or too bright for a reading. The battery is good.

I have ISO/Time set to time, with time set at 60. I have FNo/EV set to EV. I have ISO set ISO at 100. Nothing else I can see on the display. These are the setting I have always used. No matter where I point the meter (to a brighter or darker area), I just get E.

I've tried clearing the memory, and I have tried removing the battery and putting it back in.

Any ideas? If it needs repair, where might I look for something like that?

Thanks.

Assuming the batter is fresh, make sure the contacts inside the meter are clean. Maybe something is blocking the light path inside the metre. Or it's a circuit board issue... My wonderful F gave up on me after 30 years of use. It just died.

Generally the 'E' indicates f/number of reading is over/under the range of f/0.7 to f/90+0.9EV with an arrow above the analog scale;
or without the arrow above the analog scale when the scene brightness range is outside of the range that can be read.

There are no other conditions in when 'E' is displayed, described in the user manual.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think this is something I could attempt a fix on myself. It may be better to just look for a new one. Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply. These conditions are definitely not the case. The E displays without the arrows indicating over or under the given range. And no matter what the scene is, or where I am pointing the meter within the scene, it just displays the E. Thanks again.
