PROBLEM with 9800XL !

Hi,
I have a Microtek 9800XL (less than 2 years usage). Since the beginning I had one line on my scans. I could live with it by positioning the print somewhere else...
Today I got so many lines that I want to smash that thing ! I'm in no position to buy another one right now.

So, anyone has a solution/idea to solve this problem ? If it can be solved...

Have you tried cleaning the calibration slot? That often eliminates this type of problem. If that does not work you may need to go inside the scanner and clean the bulb, CCD or mirror.

I had the same problem with a Microtek 9800XL and wanted to smash it several times because I never entirely eliminated the streaks. Instead I sold it on ebay to a person who was not involved in scanning film and he was very happy with it.

I had the same issue with a epson expression 1600
I've read that it can be heat, or dust in the view path or imperfections in the tube or mirror. Nothing removed it for me and on my epson the bulbs are not user serviceable. FWIW yours look identical to mine and I'd love to hear the solution.

If it is like most microteks it is a sliver of glass about 1/2 inch wide just above where the sensor begins it scan path.
