Well, I shot some HP5+ one gloomy afternoon under spring-leaving trees and limestone arches. Also shot a couple of covered bridges. Managed to over-expose a roll (no meter), but the bad thing is I over-cooked it in Pyrocat HD. I can print negs so thin you wonder if there's an image there using the 'cat, but I know that dense negs are going to be more fun than I want to have.

As predicted, highlights won't print through regardless of exposre time and filtration. Preflash not helpful enough, postflash inadequate. Then I rembered reading somewhere about printing out on the enlarger.

I soaked the paper (used J&C Nuance G2 and Oriental Seagull WT VCFB) for 2 min in developer (Neutrol WA 1:15), placed it on the baseboard, and exposed it until the image grayed-out. Then I put it in the developer for 2 min, stopped and fixed, and got prints decent enough that I won't have to bleach and redevelop the negatives.

I can't remember where I read about that technique, but I'm glad I did.

K.
