I want to print medium format film with my Meopta 6 and I guess for that I need a film holder for 120 film right? Where can I buy one? I've been looking over the internet for quite a while but no good so far.

thanks

It is my understanding the Meopta enlargers use a glass carrier, with an adjustable mask. So, if my recollection is correct, you are good to go as you are--with a 75-80mm lens, of course, as noted.

Yes, that will work if you currently have a carrier with a 35mm metal insert. Just pop out the 35mm and pop in the 645.

There are several inserts for the carrier of the Opemus 6, and what you linked to is the 6x4,5 kind. You can modify the carrier you have by changing inserts (masks). So, if you want to print 6x6, then you'll have to get a 6x6 insert. You do this by removing two plates, one for each part of the carrier, which are held in place by two screws. That said, you also need to take into account that your negatives might "pop" in the enlarger when the lamp is on, because of the generated heat. So, having a glass at the top would probably be a good idea, comined with an insert at the bottom. The top glass looks "frosty", it's anti newton ring glass. Of course, having a glass carrier also means that you need to keep the glasses clean too. Any dirt - dust on them will show on the prints. Ideally, you'd like to have different carriers for any different format you use, so buying an extra carrier would be nice. Oh, and you also need a 80mm lens as others have said.

thanks everyone, I'll buy a 6x4.5 and a 6x6 insert, they are quite cheap anyway:wink:

Well times change, and always for the better (grin). The Meopta enlargers I used both had a six by six glass carrier, with moveable blades for format changes, and also for eliminating light blow-by when cropping. As the others mentioned, glass carriers can be a dickens to keep clean; on the other hand, they ensured negative flatness. The inserts to which you linked are what you need.

My Opemus 6 glass carrier is 54x54mm. Is that the right size for my MF 120 negative frames which are 57x56mm ? I was hoping the carrier wouldn't crop the negs but it does.

Any thoughts?

I must admit having stripped about 6 Opemus enlargers... for spare parts (lights - lenses and so on...)
The rest is going out... So I'll go and see if I can find what you're looking for - and if so I can send it to you - no charge..

(didn't realize "any" used them anymore... - I must have too many enlargers lying around..)

I use a meopta 6 enlarger, and my negative carrier uses interchangeable inserts for the various formats, 35mm, 645 and 6x6, the largest size that you can print with this enlarger,Not sure were you are but RK photographic in the U.K still have some spares, http://thedarkroom.co.uk is the site, if you have problems it is possible to make the right size out of mounting board, it is fiddly but it works, I have done it myself.

Gandolfi, thank you for the generous offer ! my main concern is that i already have the 6x6 carrier and 54mm is the actual width of the frame cutout on all of them. can you or somebody else measure the cut out size for me? if that is the largest sold then when you see the pic in my last post i will be losing 3mm from my neg frame.

you didn't answer the lens question. Do you need a lens? I've got an 80 mm el-nikkor sitting right here, with mash nut, yours for the asking. No, seriously, I got it for free and pass the savings on to you. Make a donation to the Red Cross for the postage, we're square.

If the original poster doesn't need it, I'll take it off your hands. I've been on the lookout for one for a month or so.

give him a day and if no answer its yours.

aussie, eh? Tempted to ask you questions from a monty python skit, but shall refrain.

There is another solution for the slight crop of the 6x6 mask. It's called a File..the metal thingy with teeth.

The Opemus enlargers do tend to run fairly "Hot"..I got best results with glass on the top deck of the carrier. It wasn't Anti-Newton either-but I have never had that problem.
