Does anybody know of a relible source to have pre-AINikkors AI'd.I have a few and are worried to wreck my D800 with them.

This maybe: http://www.aiconversions.com/ - looks good but I have never used the services, though.

Ai-modifications? That is a SACRILEGE!!
I've used John; fast service, quality work, fair prices.
Y'all know that the Nikon Df introduced last year takes non-AI (pre-AI) lenses, right?
If you didn't wreck your D800 with those pre-AI lenses by now you're very lucky.
preA?Iglass is of high quality and too good to rest in drawers. Some of the newer Ds need these good lenses to show their capabilities.![]()

Good to know he is still doing this. I have had several modified by him, very satisfied.
Why?
Steve.
The Pre-AI lens would hit the AI meter coupling on the D800. Lower end cameras like D5300 or D3300 don't have this coupling so it's safe to mount pre AI lenses on them.

The internet had conflicting advice. Even a couple of Nikon sites couldn't agree!
Explain yourself!
If the lens is in collector condition milling the ring reduces it to good user USD.
If it is good user already there is no loss or some gain.
If the OEM conversion ring is still available and the lens is in nice condition you need to keep both rings.
