I was about to brew a new developer to me, PPPD, and discovered I have two recipes for it.

One calls for .34 g Phenidone A heated 91% alcohol: 20.00 mL

and another that does not. There are other differences in the two formulas but this is the most obvious.

Could someone tell me which is the most recent? And is Phenidone "A" my typing error or is it a valid chemical?

Bruce, this one is the latest: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Heating the alcohol is an aid to help the phenidone dissolve. I don't do it although it no doubt helps the phenidone to dissolve a lot faster.

Thank you Alex, I notice this is where I got phenidone A from. Do you know what the "A" is about?

One more question.

In the earlier post of the PPPD formula it is stated to dilute 1 + 1.
In the latest post the only reference I see to dilution is "Use as formulated".

Does this imply it is not to diluted? If so, one liter sure won't last long in a 11 X 14 tray.

I have always diluted 1+1 and it seems to work just fine that way.

I have always used it undiluted. It seems to last all day in a tray doing 8x10's or 11x14's. I guess I will see what I get with it diluted 1:1. Some of my recent uploaded images in the gallery are done with PPPD straight. Great developer. I like the deep blacks I got with the Efke PL-25 and this developer. I always thought it was to be used straight. Maybe Donald will chime in on this. I guess whatever works best for your vision is what you should use.
