Hello everyone. I'll be delaying sending out the lists for a couple days. There is a possible change of address in the works and I've found there is less confusion if it can be changed now rather than later. So please standby for now.

I was contacted by another participant who notified me that my entry on the address list only gives one name, and not the usual "first name, last name" format. In case anyone doesn't feel comfortable sending me a postcard because I withhold certain personal information: please feel free to remove me from your send list.

Frankly, I hadn't imagined this could be an issue. If it turns out more people feel uncomfortable with me not sharing certain information, then I don't have any problems with being removed from the exchange altogether. It's OK - it really is! I'll gladly participate, but I wouldn't want others to feel uneasy because of it.

If you don't understand why reserving your last name, in this instance, is disrespectful, when you alone have done so, I doubt I can convince you. Your last name isn't private information - it's your name. Not disclosing it is a sign of distrust.

These exchanges (this one plus the print exchange) are the part of the forum where members interact as real people.

Anyway, bickering is for the other parts of the forum.

Don, this is not about withholding my name from you or anyone in that list. That list is essentially beyond the control of any of us and will end up in hands it doesn't belong in. Expecting it not to is hopelessly naive in today's digital landscape. As a minimum of security, I choose to keep my information incomplete so it at least makes it slightly more difficult to misuse this information.

There's a lot more to be said about this, but I'll keep it that I regret your interpreting this as an instance of purposeful mistrust against anyone in that list. Instead of asking me for my motivations, you chose to accuse me. Regardless of my motivations, I feel it's my decision to share whatever I formation about me, especially if that doesn't harm anyone else in any meaningful way, and I shouldn't even have to be held responsible for it - it's my information to begin with! And no, privacy sensitive information (which is a broad category these days for good reasons) such as a combination of name and address or even first and last name is NOT public domain as you assert. In the EU, where I reside, this is in fact laid down in legislation. This is not to say that I virw this as a legal matter, but to underline that my viewpoint in this isn't just some eccentric individual conception, but rather a well-recognized societal issue.

Mind you, in similar exchanges I participated in on different forums, it was perfectly normal for people to be on the list with only their forum name or whatever fake name they chose. In no instance did this result in anyone calling someone out for a lack of integrity. Hence my honest surprise when you approached me the way you did.

My offer still stands to be removed from this exchange either selectively for members who choose not to exchange cards with me (no explanation asked or required) or entirely if the list administrator feels this is appropriate.

Please people no bickering. There have been a few people with only one name on the list over the years, this is not the first. There may well be people with fake names. I assume the addresses are real otherwise what's the point. So please keep sending the cards.

I have picked out a recent negative, I went into my darkroom today, everything is set to go. I will be printing Saturday evening and Sunday leisurely. I may print some Christmas cards too, but that's another project.

Avery address labels (and clones) have document templates you can download (for use in Word or LibreOffice (which is free)).

I built my templates using the mail-merge facility in WordPerfect. I'm sure that most good word processors have something similar.
And yes, I've been using WordPerfect - and keeping it reasonably updated - for more than 45 years!
