Received a great card from Rachelle aka @mooseontheloose - the first card of the round. The photo was taken in Scarecrow Village - a place I know about from a tv show called James May Our Man in Japan, oddly enough. The photo is of two "people" embroiled in a game of Go.

Thanks for the nice card mooseontheloose (Rachelle), showing a scarecrow farmer pulling a cart of scarecrow kids. I have never heard of the scarecrow village, but I looked it up online and read all about it. Very interesting!

Thanks for the nice card mooseontheloose (Rachelle), showing a scarecrow farmer pulling a cart of scarecrow kids. I have never heard of the scarecrow village, but I looked it up online and read all about it. Very interesting!

I first heard about it quite a while ago now, but it wasn't really possible for me to visit until I (finally) got my Japanese driver's license. During my Shikoku road trip I actually came across other villages that had done something similar, but this one is by far the biggest. That said, there's no knowing how long it'll last, which is why I wanted to photograph it sooner rather than later.

I received hkbenji's "Hiking Twin Peaks in Hong Kong". A lovely path through a wooded area with a very nice tree overhead. Nice gnarled old tree. Thanks Ben!

Thanks @mfohl and @Don Heisz! Glad that you liked the print. This was my card for PCX55 though - I'm glad they are finally arriving. The post office here only allowed surface mail for most countries; still Covid issues.

Also received the first card for PCX56 - @mooseontheloose "Time for Go", as already mentioned my @Don Heisz. Great stuff, I especially enjoy spotting the two "children" in the background on closer viewing. I have fond memories of Shikoku - we also did a road trip there a few years back. So peaceful.

Thanks @hkbenji! I was also wondering why everyone was getting your card and I hadn't, since we are closest to each other geographically. But since it was a card for the last round, that makes more sense!

This is going to be a "late round" for me. I have been very busy with my volunteer activities, and have had no time to "play in the dark". I hope to get some darkroom time before month end.

I to have received "Time for Go" from mooseontheloose. The idea of a "Scarecrow Village" in order to remember what earlier times were like is very intriguing.

Here's a good video about it, for people who are interested (I'm aware that many have probably not received their card yet, so don't watch if you don't want any spoilers!). The woodpile at 00:09 (Time for Go) and the figure in the grass at 01:26 (Scarecrow farmer) are where I took both my images for this round (the woodpile is under the roof you can see in the background at 1:26 as well). Of course, the dolls in the video are different than the ones in my images since they get replaced somewhat regularly with new figures and/or new scenes.

Just come back from holiday to find mooseontheloose’s excellent scarecrow image. Reminded me a lot of the scarecrow village festivals that we often have in the local area, where everyone in the village builds their own scarecrow and displays it outside their house.

Got a very cool cyanotype postcard from @jonmon6691 - it unfortunately suffered some significant damage (strips of the image peeled off in transit). Very cool, nonetheless - thanks! It's been years since I did some cyanotypes. Maybe I should mix up some stuff and try a couple.

My postcards are finally ready and will be mailed Monday.

I sent a bunch of postcards back home to friends and family while I was on a road trip around the Utah National Parks and they all seemed to do okay in the mail. But I've made a lot of changes to my process since then...

And I have a confession to make, as a youngster, this is the first silver gellitain print I've ever held in my own hands and got to inspect up close. Its getting me excited for the community college darkroom class I'm taking later this summer!

Received two cards, today. One 5x7 from @MattiS - a very nice photo of what I'm guessing is a hydroelectric sluice gate? It could be aeration of treated water, too, though. Hard to tell. It's a fairly significant structure, though.

The second card was in an envelope from @mfohl. The print is nice, without too much magnification from the Holga negative. Very nice shadows and contours.

I sent a bunch of postcards back home to friends and family while I was on a road trip around the Utah National Parks and they all seemed to do okay in the mail. The damage is likely from the sorting machines. The wheel likely furred up the edge and then pulled strips off the face. Short of putting it in an envelope, there's not much to be done. Postcards get damaged in the mail - it's part of the "charm". Battle scars. Frankly, I'm continually amazed they get where they're supposed to.

Catching up on two cards for this round. Mooseontheloose sent a card titled Time to Go, showing ‘scarecrows’ of past village residents. Sounds a little spooky, but there’s an interesting story behind the figures in the picture and why they exist. Mfohl sent Track taken with a swing lens camera. Outside of various articles, I have never seen an actual photograph from this kind of camera. Much sharper than I would have imagined it to be given the mechanics involved.

My cards went out today.
