No, just it makes no sense to me, somebody stated it "lures people in" and I am lured out. What is so secret about postcards people make and send out? I would like to see what is being done, after all postcards used to be in their own genre just like movie posters, do people just pic an image and print it or do they do what postcards used to look like, and there were some awsome ones made in GOD.

Viewing a printed image is just a different experience that my nieces and nephews don't understand. Something like this exchange probably isn't for everyone, but these are some of the things that drew me to this. I'm glad I joined the exchange.

I am all with you on the whole idea of doing it the old way, started doing it to friends on own with store bought cards. At the same time, I do not subscribe to this prescription, don't see a point hiding them from public view. I am not that curious and if people feel sharing their card design diminishes value of them, fine. The approach worked for you and I can appreciate that too.

But, as a participant, I like the suprise to find a postcard with an unknown picture on it in my letterbox. After printing and sending cards these are the charming moments of the PCX. It would change to ticking off the list if I would know every cards subject in advance. In my opinion it´s more hiding from other participants than the public to keep these moments of surprise.

Maybe the cards can be shown here after the exchange round is finished.

Two more cards arrived in yesterday's post. BSP postcard on old Agfa paper. Two young protestors with a very important message! I whole heartedly agree. And one from calphotgraphy - Niece Riding Scooter. The family realy enjoyed the motion you caught on the postcard. The white and black boarders work well on this postcard.

Good old postcards were a small piece of art for sale on the cheap, there was often more to card's design than just the image itself. Making exchange event without showing it off? Ok, just not for me.

It’s not a secret. I think many don’t post in the thread so as not to spoil it for those who haven’t received the card yet. But some do post their cards in the exchange galleries, although to be fair it was more common in the past than now. Finally, not everyone wants to post their work online, so it’s completely voluntary anyway. If you signup for the max you’ll see most of the cards, which is what I do when I take part.

Niece riding Scooter , has a feeling of youthful expression and tightly cropped. I have many memory's and photo's like these of my kids when young.

Mailed mine out last week. The domestic ones went out without an envelope, the foreign ones were inside an envelope. Had a difficult time coming up with an image that would fit in a postcard type format. I ended up using half of a 2 1/4 sq Hassy negative which did not reproduce as I intended. It's part of a white fence, I was hoping for better detail in the whites. I suspect it failed miserably, I'll do better next time. Didn't know if there were restrictions in subject matter, so mine is quite bland. I did print it in my darkroom, on an 8x10 enlarger. I think I'll print 5x7 postcards next time. Have received several nice postcards.

That will prevent you from taking advantage of the very favourable USPS rate for postcard postage, which limits you to a maximum of 4"x6".

I received your card yesterday. Sending them in an envelope is probably a good idea. I mailed mine at Feb 26th which was a quite rainy day. And the front of the postcards seemed to get sticky when they get a bit of moisture. In my worst dreams there is a 29 postcard pile sticking together in a damp letterbox ... .

Two more postcards have arrived in the last few days:

Mattis Harzquerbahn, a detailed photo of a good old steam train still in service. A nice perspective. The pram, which is being loaded (or unloaded?), is the reference to the present. I also like the deckle edge very much.

Luis-F-S white fence. I love how the regularity of the pattern formed by the two fences placed one behind the other is interrupted at the right edge.

And today, Wednesday 04 March 2020, I have now received MattiS's card of 'Zeiss Planetarium' in Bochum, Germany.

A great view of the outside of the building, which in itself is quite an interesting shape, with the slight curvature in the roof. I was a little upset that I didn't receive a print from the pile of scallop cut ones that were shown in an earlier post, and received by hwv though. But it has prompted me to look for my scallop cutter, as I bought one very cheaply in a sale and I seem to have misplaced it. So maybe my smile will turn back the right way, when it's found and has been used on a set of my prints in the future.

IMPORTANT MattiS: I wonder about how long you fixed the prints for? I ask as just since receiving your print, the whole print seems to be getting darker, with now a mid grey veil over the whole image, with the borders being the most obvious. I would normally put it straight back in a fixer bath if it was mine, but with the writing on the reverse, I don't really want to. I have now placed it in a dark place to avoid it (hopefully) getting any darker.

Normally I fix the prints 2-3 minutes in Adofix. Fixer was fresh, maybe I mixed up some postcards and your copy left the fixer bath too early. But I did not notice such an issue at other postcards. What I noticed is that my MCP310 is a bit foggy. Apologizes for that - if the card still gets darker I´m happy to send you a spare one of the scallop cut ones.

Well, since putting the card in a darker place, it does not seem to have got any darker, but it definitely has a dark grey tone all over to it.

I don't want to put you to any trouble, but if you already have another card printed, it would be gratefully received.

I'm pleased to say that I've finally finished processing my prints! (What an endeavour it has been!) I shall post them out this weekend, and all goes well the postcard will reach you in the next week or so.

Being my first exchange I didn't know what to expect. So far it has been both challenging and rewarding. Though, next time, I will follow the sage advise of K.I.S.S

After receiving a number of postcards from this exchange I think the information I've included on the back have been a bit brief. I would be interested to hear what information members would like to see on future cards.

It is entirely up to you!
I do appreciate, however, if you include:
1) the Exchange it relates to (e.g. "Photrio Postcard Exchange #49");
2) Your Photrio screen name;
3) a Title or some other identifying information, to make it easier to respond to.
Anything else is a bonus!
