I received two cards these last days:

Howard's "Harlem portrait" , very nice portrait (I guess the sitter is an anonymous person? At least it looks like he's just somebody you met in the street) with a great claccic look.
Ilya's "Mustangs on a parade". The row of classic cars looks very nice indeed!

Howard Earl – Harlem Portrait – Great classic-looking portrait with nice lighting accentuating his coat.

Jon Tryggvason – Close to Home – Very high contrast graphic mountain. I really like the animal for scale. Very sharp

jvo – Phew… had the quiet tlr with me !!! - A very fun print! Very nice composition with the trees framing the dinosaur.

MattKing – Insulated – I really love the toning and matte finish, it’s a great combination for this image! It makes the insulators seem even dustier and older, as if they were ancient relics.

gijsbert – Buddha at Cafe Budapest in Amsterdam – Looks like a neat place to visit. Lots of different textures in the foliage and bricks.

If anyone's not received a card from me who's on my list, let me know as I sent them all out a while ago.

I've mentioned some of this before, but I don't know if...

1. lots of the cards being sent get lost in the mail;

2. the receivers of cards don't bother to mention their receipt on this forum or

3. some people who sign up don't bother sending some or all of the cards.

I've signed up for six for a good number of rounds now. On average about three people acknowledge receipt of the cards that I send and on average I receive about two cards out of six, on each round.

Make of that what you will.

jvo – Phew… had the quiet tlr with me !!! - great atmosphere of a A.Conan-Doyle novel Really makes me smile.
MattKing – Insulated - interesting and unusual subject. Toning is very delicate, but adds much to the impression.
Black Dog - Rosslyn #1 - oh, color! Nicely composed and printed also. Details of the archway deserve a thorough look.
drpsilver - Peasant girl - your subject looks very much alive. Great portrait!

So, it's six cards here.

another gem today... from wayne frederick, "mansion, fort williams park", intriguing to say the least... wonderfully made with camera's, papers, developers and chemicals i've only heard about - excellentlly done, a real prize!

i've really appreciated each of the cards i've rec'd, the image, the work, the care. i hope i've sent mine in the same spirit. my attitude, is once i've sent them i hope they arrive, and, it is a gift! hopefully all get to the recipient and they enjoy them.

what i receive is what i receive - we all have life happening. my hope is that the exchange continues to grow and we can provide our art and insight to each - appreciation. thanks

Received a print of some nice Ford Mustangs from bedrof, very cool. Nice coincidence, I just watched the movie Bullitt with a smoking Steve McQueen Mustang car chase!

Terry, the fewer cards you sign up for, the greater chances you won't get many back. If I sign up for 20 and 3 don't send, I still get 17 (85%). If you sign up for 6, and 3 don't send, you only end up 3 (50%). Of course we would all like to get cards from everyone who signs up, but that rarely happens. I've been doing these for over 10 years and have NEVER had a 100% return rate. Never. Sometimes people are late (life gets in the way), or very very late, some people never do it, some people quit this site, and some people sign up for this site, sign up for an exchange, and then we never hear from them again. It's one of those things you have to accept if you do these exchanges.

Edit: You are on my list, but as mentioned earlier, I myself will be late this round. Also, I've been travelling the past couple of weeks, so it's possible your card arrived after I left. I'll double check when I get back.

I think I had a 100% received rate for Round 44 - the first time I think.
But usually one or two don't make it. I normally sign up for 20-24.
I must confess that I have varying amounts of success in my efforts to comment on all I receive.

Ive been stock pilling. I have one from Howard Simmons A man looking rather stylish in hat and coat, great beard. One from Gijsbert a statue of a person surrounded by bamboo, with a plant on his lap in what looks like a very uncomfortable pose, is it even possible to have your foot that way sitting like that?? I cant even get my other foot up when I try. One from Darwin another statue of a poor young girl carting a basket, Im sure this would infringe on child labor laws. Mr Dog a doorway leading into a dark passage with what looks like ghostly faces in arch, person in sunlight at the end of the tunnel looks unassuming, maybe its safe to go. Laurent's has a picture of George's house and across the road lives Monde, LOOK!. JVO has a time machine and managed to get a shot of a Brontosaurus, amazing. Think if I had a time machine I would go back in time and tell myself not to marry my first wife. iandvaag a person with thin legs and walking sticks wondering why the Christmas tree has no decorations, very sad. Matt King an army of Dalek ready to Exterminate!. Jon Tryggvason a boxy thing, a horse, a man and a craggy mountain, what more does a picture need.

Cheers awty-you can spend hours at Rosslyn just looking at the carvings (most people couldn't read when they were done, but they could recognise the symbolism in these). I'm always looking for something a little different.

Thanks for the comments peoples, about the percentages of receiving prints in the exchange. Yes, I understand that some go astray somewhere along the line, but it's just such a shame after so much effort has gone into producing and then sending them by the participants. And I understand that my smaller quantity of postcards sent would weigh against me percentage wise, but it's an expensive business for me sending them abroad and six cards is within my budget. But hey. ho, I'll just have to appreciate the cards that I do get even more.

OMG! the Daleks are my all time favourite Dr Who villain and I would have loved to have received that as a card. It deffo would have been given special treatment and put somewhere to be seen, rather than in the collecting box that I have for my other postcards, but looking at it in a gallery somewhere would suffice. Any chance of that happening Matt???

I must confess that although the Doctor Who series has always intrigued me, I have been too intimidated by the sheer variety, volume and longevity of the series to dive in. Can anyone suggest a place to start?
In the meantime, and with some trepidation, I'll see what Google can tell me about Daleks .

I appreciate your offer bedrof, but you will be pleased to know that your postcard dated stamped 10.04.19. has just arrived!

The card itself is great in many respects.

Like my offerings lately, the postcard received has been printed from an old negative. Apparently, the negative used is (exactly) 10 years old; taken on HP5 = my most used film; and shot on a Pentax K1000 = a camera that I used whilst at college, many moons ago = a great and solidly made manual camera that I have good memories of using. It is also the senders first go at spotting and he's done well there as I can't see any obvious dots.

The title is 'From under the bridge', but bedrof hasn't said which one. The picture has the said bridge in silhouette along with two pedestrians in the foreground. The scene of interesting looking tall buildings in the background are in full sun.

It's a very well printed postcard with a full range of tones, has a lovely wide border all around the print, and I like it very much, so thanks for sending it! It would be great if you could put it in a gallery somewhere to let others see what I am talking about.

A couple of questions though please...

1. Where is the bridge that is in the picture?

2. What paper is the postcard printed on? I love the surface texture, which reminds me of 'Silk' that I used to get my C41 prints made on occasionally in the 1980's. And is it RC or FB?

3. And finally, what spotting inks did / do you use? I ask as the majority of ones that I have bought and tried are more dark blue than black, becoming more so when diluted for the lighter tones.

2. Paper is Slavich Bromportrait FB. It's still being produced not far from Moscow here. It has been my deafault paper for a couple of rounds of PCX, but now I'm switching to glossy Fomabrom, I think.
3. Just a couple of months ago a received a set of Marshall's inks. I had the same idea after first using neutral black - that it is not really neutral, but with a bluish tint. It looks more black to me when not diluted. But still it takes a lot of testing to match colors.

And thanks to other lads confirming the card received and for comments too.

Ah, I did wonder if it was a scene of the NY city skyline.

And thanks for the info about the paper,I'm now going to go in search of it. Before your comments, I thought it to maybe an old, thick surface RC paper, so I am glad to be corrected.

And again thanks for details about the ink you use. It seems that I still remain in search of a neutral black spotting ink then. Ho, hum.

I can't seem to find a mention from Wayne about him sending his cards, but I have just received one from him, making it 3 out of 6 received this round = the usual is about 2 out of 6.

As already mentioned above, great photo, made with various bits unknown to myself.
