Hi everyone, your postcards have been hitting my mailbox like its christmas already - they made me very happy!

So far, I've received cards from:

Rachelle (mooseontheloose): Perfect postcard. I instantly knew it was from you because I had read somewhere else about your move to Japan. Such a beautifully composed picture, the little photographer looks so calm and happy!
Alex (Fleath): beautiful street scene from the other side of the world (and yet so familiar..) with interesting symmetry/assymetry. The waiting girl on the left (no movement) versus the cars on the right: great composition!
Mick Fagan: a high key portrait with an unusual angle and a beautiful print which I like very much. But say, does your postman hate you? Like last round, your card arrived with warmarks far worse than all the others... ;-)
Dave Martiny: wow, great street scene, well composed, well printed! I especially like how the light reflects off his head and that you can see so many details in this shot.
Avi: Like a photo from 50 years ago, excellent! Beautiful warm print on matte paper which made me think instantly about my grandparent's photos. I like how you composed it, too: it looks like the castle of an evil king!
Steve Brown: A piece of England and a beautiful print. Many details to look at, and always good to see a picture of such a holy place

Got DRPSILVER's grainy sand stone sculpt by wind and water,Tafoni,Cambria. don't know what Tafoni is but know one of the ages of the earth was the Cambrian. Thanks Darwin its cool.

I got Steve Brown's postcard today (BoxBrownie) - I dig it. I was really surprised when I read it was from a Point and Shoot camera on the back, could have fooled me. It feels quite familiar actually, I like the windows best. Well printed, and on a paper I don't think I've seen in person before.

Thanks for you kind words, and I am glad you like the image. Using TX developed in D76(1:1) added to the grainy feel of the rocks in the photo. "Tafoni" is a geologists term for rock (usually sandstone) that has been eroded in this manner by wind and water. Cambria is a small "art/tourist" town near Hearst Castle on the central California coast.

Steve Brown - An excellent example of how 35mm, when done well, can yield a full range of rich tonality and fine detail. I would have guessed it was 4x5.

Darwin -It took me a minute to determine the most likely orientation! Good composition; the dark tones on the left side are balanced with the longer lighter tones radiating to the right.

Gurkenprintz - Great shot, and an interesting transportation concept.

Wow! I've received some great cards this round. I was going to list them all this time but didn't yet so probably wont! I love them all. I am planning on getting into the darkroom in the next few days to go through all my negs from this year and will get postcards done sometime after the 4th.

I got my cards into the mail today, so they should start arriving on this continent next week. I had more international (not US or Canada) than ever before. Kinda cool to be sending cards, and recieving them, to and from so many corners of the globe.

Avi's Chateau Frontenac - I must have seen this imposing building when I was in Quebec city on a school trip, but all I remember is being harrangued by Rene Leveque for being Anglo.

Box Brownie's pub - didn't have to look at the back to know this was in England.
And today's arrival - Gurkenprinz's Fort Agra - wonderful light reflected off the floor

Three more cards arrived in the mail -- all in one day! Unfortunately, with this being the rainy season, they also arrived all stuck together. Luckily, no damage done.

Three interesting architectural* shots all together:

aluk's Chateau Frontenac, a building I have never seen in person, but certainly know from pictures. I like the angle chosen here -- a really different perspective of a very famous building!
gurkenprinz's "Touched by Light", a very atmospheric shot of Agra Fort, a place I hope to photograph myself one day.
hwv's abstract which feels like it could be a montage of two different photos, or not, or of two conflicting structures*, or perhaps of...piano keys, which was my first impression. I still can't figure it out, which I like.

Chris (gurkenprinz) - The New Delhi Rikshaw, great job with the panning, I've never had a knack for that. I like the sense of speed. I've had it sitting on my coffee table for a few hours and it keeps catching my eye as I walk past...
Gregory (Sage) - Taken on one of his photo-adventures, and I really dig it. The vine at the right especially. It reminds me of my grandmother's place, and I love the weathered chair. I thought it was a small piano for a moment...
Heinz (hwv) - I keep looking at this. I cant exactly figure out what it is, but I'm gonna say stairs and a window...that's just my interpretation, but It reminds me of that Bresson photo of the cyclist. I quite like it. Sometimes photos I can't figure out just bother me, but not in this case.

Hello all,

Last Monday (June 28th) I received Mick Fagan postcard. WOW I love the light on that one. It is an unusual angle but it works, that is the point. It made me realize a stupid thing, I never saw that my postcard paper was available in a glossy finish. I ordered a box right away.

I finished to exposed 50 something mines over the last night, will process them this week and should be in the mail next weekend.

In my previous post, when I used the word "stupid", it had nothing to do with Mick`s genius work... I mean that I am stupid to not have seen the glossy version of that paper before. That is what happen when you communicate in a language that is not yours. Hope it is ok with you Mick.


Ok here is mi biggest batch I think, picked up at the post office 45 minutes ago:

drpsilver: A nice print of what nature can do. Tones are great, at some point you can`t figure out if it is the grain in the film or the texture of the rocks. Nice work.

sage: A front porch that has everything, from pure white to the deepest black. Looking at the bench I can imagine how the life was going some years ago. Is it a bird cage under the bench ? Good work, nicely print.

Fleath: Your image was very exciting for me, since I think about trying night photography since a while. I am very impressed by the clarity and the details, even with low light. I will give a particular place to your card on my "Wall of fame".

BoxBrownie: It remembers me why I like fomapan so much. Would like to have beer there. The tones are amazing even with the light that look pretty bright. I really like it.

gurkenprinz: Even if it was at 6:00am I suspect that food to be very spicy Could you reprint it in "scratch and smell" format ? Serioulsy, it makes me want to take my backpack and leave for the other end of the globe. You can feel the movement of his hand. Nice shot !!!

My sentiments exactly! For some reason, the formations of the rocks reminds me of an angel with outspread wings. Thanks Darwin!

Patrick, I understood perfectly what you meant and was referring to, not a problem!

Gurkenprinz sent a very intriguing print on old Ilford flat matte paper, which was interesting enough. The motion evident in the scene is very nice, as is the fact that you took this at 0600hrs, dedication or hunger?

Paul C 5x4 sent in a remarkably nice print of the Weybourne signal box. My grandfather was a locomotive driver on steam trains and I used to be inside the local signal box if it was raining whilst awaiting him to take me home, many memories.

Sage, looks like a bird cage or a food safe, (that is something that keeps insects off food) under the seat. Love the flywire door.

Aluk's Chateau Frontenac, never heard of it before, looks imposing from the angle it has been taken from.

Box Brownie, doesn't half look like a fifties pub in inner Melbourne, especially the Richmond, Collingwood, Abbotsford areas. Interesting lamp post.

HWV, I'm not really sure what you have given to me, but it's interesting, especially when viewed diagonally.

@Mick: I admit it was only hunger. After 15 hours on an Indian sleeper train, dedication to anything is a only a very theoretical concept...

I've received three more cards since the one from Mick:

Fleath, Chantal at the tram stop. Great picture. Available light, scene of daily life (or weekly life? Looking at your photo I picture the scene of taking the tram home after an evening of going out, having a drink, and another...). Coincidence: I've also printed on Agfa Brovira this round. You have managed to flatten the paper well... My prints will spend the next week under a stack of books, in the hope to get them more or less flattened...

BoxBrownie, Heart and Hand pub. Nice tonal range and details. I like it.

drpsilver, power of water and wind. Still not sure which way is up, but it looks good in any orientation.

My two different themes are all printed, the second batch just needs some time to flatten before writing, addressing and sending.

50 in the mail on Friday (printed them Tuesday night, took them to the cottage Thursday, completed them Thursday night and Friday morning, drove to Silton - the nearest town to my cottage that has a post office - and mailed them Friday noon). The Canadians should see theirs this week; the Americans and internationals, a few days after that.

I've got about ten so far - some very impressive ones. I hope you consider my work to be commensurate.
