Hi everyone. Apologies for you not yet receiving my cards - has been crazy for me with work since moving to Bangkok.
They will be posted after the Christmas silly season, to ensure they don't go wandering off on their own!!

Looking forward to returning home on the 30th and seeing any cards that have arrived since Dec 4th.

Two more today. It's like I've struck it rich this last week and a half. 11 all told in nine days.

Sam (tocalosh)'s Sadhu arrived in the post. I have no words. I stare at it for minutes (just did since starting this line). A very intriguing subject to say the least.

I also received Warren (wazza)'s Spiral Staircase. Shame the light was so low. The near rain\ling would have added some great depth to it. The curves are very pleasing. I like it alot.

Wow ! this is a great day : 3 cards in the box (plus some snow and a nice cold weather !).

Tim Gray's Tuna : very appealing shot, great composition and very good print.

Wazza's spiral staircase : the feeling of the place is very well carried in the print, I can almost feel the stone under my feet !

Ruediger's "Dances" : very abstract subject (my son saw a cat in it !), I love it.

I've received many cards this time around, but have yet to get mine out in the mail. Still no regular access to a darkroom/enlarger, so will do scan-and-print of a chrome again. I was dissatisfied with the quality of MPIX's printing last time but have found another provider. Cards--some of a new image and some leftovers from last round--should go out by the first of the year. Sorry about the delay!

Dr. Fish produced a very nice vertical water fall,Kegon Falls in Japan.the base of falls has ice around it while the top looks like a summer day.A lot of fine detial in this image. Thanks Toay (I think that is how your name is spelled).

Thanks Laurent and Mike for the kind comments. Unbelievable that the card made it to Los Angeles so fast.

Yes folks, I am late this time (and my daughter is even more late, but her postcards will come), we had a busy time with renovations in the house. But now I am back. Back to APUG and back in the darkroom again. I hope my postcards make it to your door before Christmas.

In the meantime I found many beautiful postcards in my mailbox. I am looking forward going through that large pile of cards after Christmas, writing some comments while having a glass of wine next to me.

Some of you may have noticed, I put the postcard exchange schedules for the next two years into the forum: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Cheers

Few new postcards! wazza's Notre Dame stairwell. I love how the light from the window reflects on the stairs. Nice photo. DrZish's Kegon Falls is just beautiful. The light was just right to make the falls glow! tocalosh's Hindu Holy man is so well captured. My whole family loved it. Fantastic!

I find myself staring at Tony's Kegon Falls for quite a while now. The composition reminds me of photographs I have seen of Vernal Falls in Yosemite. I absolutely love this card. As I do all of the cards I have received this round. Merry Christmas everybody.

A few new postcards to comment on, now that I've finished moving (for now)...

I really like Tim Gray's Tsukiji fish market shot. I went there for the first time myself this year but didn't get there until too late and didn't really get any interesting shots. Oh well, it's a good thing that I'm going back to Japan in a few months.

Avi's entrance to the Canadian Parliament almost has an abstract quality to it due to the amount a detail in it. Love the Foma paper as well -- that's one paper I really miss.

Mike C's 'sleigh bells' are a nice interpretation on a common theme. I love frosty images and this is a good one.

Dr. Louie's Old Montreal almost reminded me of France until I saw the sign for poutine! Nice shot.

A great action shot from Mick Fagan -- hope you didn't get any mud on your lens!

And finally, another card from the Ryan clan, this one from Jane -- an interesting image, although I think I would like to have seen more of a profile on the girl.

Well, that's it for now with a week left to go this round...26 received and 26 YET to be received...:surprised:...although I know many more are in the mail. Just a reminder to those that haven't sent yet that I have a new address so check your pm's for my current address.

I missed the tuna auction - only got there around 7:30am I think. There was plenty of tuna action going on at the different stalls. Lots of other interesting things too.

Tim -- that's what time I made it there too! But by that time most of the tuna had been rounded up and was being sliced up. I got a few photos of that happening, but that's about it. Barely enough for one roll of 120 film. I guess it also depends on the day and the number of fish being sold.

Oh, and as an early Christmas present, wazza's postcard of the Notre Dame stairwell arrived today as well. It arrived a little worse for wear, but mostly intact -- thanks Warren.

I have claimed that photographs have had a lot of depth. aluk's card arrived over the weekend. First, it's on FB. Secondly it is toned very well, could be the actual color of the stone. Third, it is as close to a three-dimensional photograph I have ever seen. One of the best prints I have ever seen.

I also received Jacco's card. Looks like my own kitchen counter. Well, under the twelve inches of Christmas dishes.

I receivedBlack Dog's card yesterday. Very puzzling at first sight, until I realized what the subject is. The feeling of stillness is very well conveyed.

Now that this round is nearly over, I want to send some comments for the postcards I received so far.

But first a few words about the schedule. I have the impression, that the four month schedule for each round seems to be too short. I was late and many others were late and - since I am still waiting for about 20 postcards - many others fall out of the schedule. I do not want to change the schedule for the next round but we probably should think about it a bit.

Here the postcards I received so far:

sly - a nice brown toned 4x5 contact print which seems to come from another time. Very nice, I like it a lot.
c.w. - Wow, what a wide landscape. You put a lot of drama in it. Good.
photomem - a soft nostalgic piano shot. I like the play with the focus. Unfortunately I got the one which has not been fixed out, so there is a brown spot on it.
lorirfrommontana - sent a nice portrait of her daughter ans so showed us also a portrait of another postcard member. Thanks for that.
rtbadman - the next wide landscape. The graffitti on the building makes it for me. I like it.
Rob Skeoch - Dusty Bikes in the Alley makes me wanting to see more of your Searching for China series.
kwhitmore - What is it in the very foreground? A flower? This is the anchor of the image and bang the post office printed some orange lines across it. Anyway I like it - no, not the orange lines.
karl burke - Well, I like Fionas eye. And depending on your choice of top and bottom it tells you different stories.
markrewald - In every round I get some very nice IR images. And I always think, well I should try this myself and I never try it and then in the next round ... I like the Colorado Capital Building - well, I like the glow of the foliage even more.
crispinuk - a shot that I tried so many times and it never worked for me. This one works very well and the different shades of the trees gives depth. Thanks.
Allen Friday - Rockfleet Castle, did I ever mention that I like castles? I like castles. And thanks for the historical background.
Mike Wilde - wow, I like this image a lot. There is so much detail, exposure is spot on. Thanks.
paul_c - Cathedral of St John. Did I ever mention that I like cathedrals? Thanks for sending this?
mooseontheloose - let me see, in every round I get some ... Well, I like it.
kraker - Kitchen 1 - a good attempt and a good idea for a series. I visited your homepage and also liked the favourites series.
mckenna - interesting capture of old and new. We have many of the new here in Germany. Thanks.
Mick Fagan - great action. Did you have to clean your lens afterwards. Anyway I like it.
wazza - brougth back memories to a vacation in France where we visited a wind mill and the stairs there looked nearly the same but came up counter clockwise. That alone makes it to a very nice photograph for me, but I also like the composition and I especially like the highlight tones in the stairs.
pasto - a nice street shot printed to my liking. Thanks
Tim Gray - it tuna time. Interesting composition and I also always surprised how big they are. yum yum!
Laurent - a fuel decanter. I like such details and I like how you printed it. Thanks. A fuel decanter, how cool is this, I only know about wine decanters
hoffy - no 153. This is a very nice shot. A lot of movement in it but also sharp details. And a nice subjet too. Very well done. Thank you.
mike c - "So. Cal. Sleight bells" does "So. Cal." stand for "South Californian"? And they are frosted? Wow. Anyway I like it.
tocalosh - what a moving image. Thank you.
aluk - this is my favourite so far. I like the tone, the subject, the detail and how it is printed. Interesting paper too, I have never tried this one. Thank you.
MattKing - Up, Up and Away - Good image of an urban landscape. I like it.
DrZish - Kegon Falls. At the bottom of the falls is this still snow and ice?
Christopher Walrath - Sunset and Storm. Wow, this looks great and dramatic. I like it.
Wayne Frederick - I like this kind of photographs where you walk around in the image and find so many interesting things. Thanks.
drpsilver - wow, that I call abandoned. Thanks for sharing.
bwakel - Oh dear! I can very well understand your wife. @All do not risk your life just to send a great postcard.
OMU - Hey, they know how to marry. I like it.
meltronic - I like it, but I can not tell youo exactly why. I just like it.
polyglot - "Cliché in Grey", yes, but a nice one. Thank you.

That is it so far. I am looking forward to the rest of the postcards and the next rounds signup will start tomorrow.

Cheers
Ruediger

Only a couple more hours left to go for 2009...

Three more postcards today, a really nice print from DrZish of Kegon Falls in Japan. I've never been there but will likely make the trip once I go back later this year. I also got Wayne Frederick's "working waterfront", which I think is a nicely crafted image of a busy scene. And last, but not least, Tocalosh's Hindu Holy Man -- a really great photograph of a really interesting person.

Happy New Year everyone!
