Today I received a great abstract, Magazines, from Jacco (kraker) and a very graphic shot of some frozen berries from Avi (aluk).
One of the great things about the postcard exchange is the variety of cards. I'm just comparing Jacco's low key and strong grain with Avi's high key, delicate tonality in the ice. Very different styles (and chosen well for the respective subjects) and very enjoyable.

Pete,

Thanks for your comments. Wow, mailed from the Netherlands on Monday, arrived in Norway on Wednesday. That's pretty good!

I've just finished writing the last card, so the remainder of my cards for this round will go in the mail tomorrow.

I received Aluk's card today - Frozen Berries. The layer of ice on the branches and berries, I like it.. That will never happen here though. The fine point pen, makes me want to get one too, 0.3 probably for round 17. The one I currently used, is a bit thick.

Anyway, there are a number of other postcards that I have received, I will list them down over the next few posts.

All of my cards except one, were sent out this week. I actually printed them last December (or maybe November) but held them back so that there would be a controlled and continuous stream of cards to peoples around the world.

It has been quite good to once again look at the interesting, and often thought provoking prints, landing in my letterbox.

I will remark about one print, that did have me thinking. I received print number 50, from a print run of 50, from Ozphoto.

I realised then that there were something like a few hundred, at least, original prints of mine, held in private collections around the world.

Not too many photographers can say that, eh? :D

This is another reason for being in the postcard exchange, definitely value for money.

crispinuk's card arrived yesterday. I'm sure the beer gut is accurate, even if the rest wasn't. Thanks!

And Mick, I'm very proud to possess a few of your few hundred originals. Keep them coming!

cheers
Pete

Continuing the limited edition theme, I'm very pleased to have number 47 out of 50 from ozphoto. Thanks, Nanette. It makes a good abstract and I like the way you've caught the opalescence of the shell.

cheers

I received Crispin's German Pipers in England and Samad's street view of Alor Star in Malaysia last week. Well done, both. Samand's photo depicts downtown very well with all the motos and bikes lined up at the light. Those pipes the Germans have are huge and beautiful.

I have received 4 cards in the last week and haven't posted for awhile...
Anke's: Black Forest in Blue- very sweet little cyanotype of a snow filled forest in Germany. I finally found your town of Jena in my new World Atlas I just purchased so I could find where my postcard buddies hail from. It's so much fun trying to find out!
Aluk's: Frozen berries from Montreal. Very graphic and almost abstract...Cool subject...literally..
Samad's: Policeman doing his job... don't think I'd want to run into him while there..interesting slice of life from far away...could be taken here as well. It's funny how universal some things are...
Ozphoto's: Enjoyed this one and also like to photograph shiny white shells in macro...Like your treatment of the subject matter..Well done. Thanks for your comment about the previous round.

Kate, I've been thinking just the same thing while I was writing the cards this round. I start recognising the 2-letter-state codes of the USA, I see the same locations repeating round after round, and even within one round I start thinking "hey, didn't I send another card to the same state/city/... just now? Are these two people living in the same town, and if so, how big is this town?". I'm really getting curious about where you all are on the map .

A proper atlas sounds like a great idea; I was actually thinking of putting it all in Google Earth, cheaper but less fun. Maps... I can look at them for hours...

Two more cards came in today. The card from KWhitmore is well done. It makes me ask what the graffiti was about and why above the chair (or was the chair an addition by someone else)? Thanks you for your kind words about my card, and I am glad that it inspired you.

The card from tlsid reminds me of the old, and sometimes abandoned, building that I like to photograph. What a story this photo could tell.

Thanks to both of you for such nice cards.

Regards,
Darwin

Since my last post I received several cards. A street view from Samad, Anke Drewitz sent the beautiful Black Forest cyanotype. kraker sent an image from his favourites series. I like it a lot. aluk sent frozen berries - I like this very graphic image. crispinuk sent an image of German minstrels. Very nice, it made me smile. MattKing sent an interesting detail of an arbutus tree. It looks like a painting to me. tlsid sent Chair, Jugs and Crates. Funny. Also funny is Guests Only from KWhitmore. Hopefully the guests pay before using the boat.

This is a great round.

Cheers

In past rounds I have taken each card as it arrived, and slid it into a photo album page, so the set stays together. During this round I have been very busy at work, so usually all I have had the energy to do after a late dinner is sort the 'junk' mail from the 'real' mail, and leave the real mail in a pile for 'later' sorting. Well last night was that later, and I must have had 15 images to file away. What a great body of work, and there are still more arriving.

When a round is about 95% received I temporarily mount them to foam core board with a bit of cello tape on the top edge, and display them in my company lunch room for a few weeks. People are always hanging around waiting for the microwave, etc, and I always find people looking them over, and flipping them to see where they are from, etc. We collectively get a lot of complments that way.

some more cards

Hi folks,

some more cards during the last days:
aluk's frozen berries, as nice as some previous comments said
Mick Fagan's rainy day with a car, love the captured gloss
ozphoto's shell study, I got the 49er  too a nice gloss brought out
rst's castle Altdahn, another loss of details were added, the one who damaged some parts of this card ...
kraker's interesting texture of magazines as the answer to a surprise

Thank you all for this nice round and all, who commented on my cards,
wish you happy easter!

I've received a few more cards and I would like to mention the quality of presentation and printing from Katherine Whitmore.

Firstly the framing of the subject as presented is perfect, secondly the printing is superbly done, thirdly the humour of the "Guests Only" is great.

Finally, the slight trimming of the postcard stock paper as supplied from Ilford, for a perfectly sized (in direct proportion to the image itself) tells me that this postcard is a real representation of the photographer's complete professionalism.

Katherine, I'm impressed.

Mick...would it be ok if I printed your comments and pinned them up in my darkroom? Thank you. (blush)

K, having something like this on your darkroom wall is good, if you start to slack off, a quick look and you will be back on track.

I have no problem with your request.

Gordrob's card landed in my mail box yesterday, and was immediately struck by the contrast that IR gives. I like how Spike becomes the only subject of interest. Well done. Thank you for you comments, and am glad you liked my card.

I just wanted to let you all know that my cards went in the mail today. I won't bore you with a list of reasons why it took so long to get them out, but I do apologize for the delay.
Best, Laura
