Two more cards arrived today.
Tim Gray's back yard and fourth of July. Image is wonderful and spontaneous and Zeiss definitely shows its quality.
Jon King's Very nicely presented " Appalachian Cone". Good job.

Wow, this round is really good.

Hey Heather,
I'm no fan of the dentist either - especially not this one!
It's no longer in use, just left that way after the Gaol closed in 1988. What you see in the picture is basically how it was for the prisoners at the time.
And Tim's 4th of July image arrived today as well - reminds me of our 26th of January (Australia Day) barbies - including the flames!!

Hopefully there will be a few more in the mailbox before I head off on another 2 month shoot on Saturday.

Thanks everyone for the appreciative comments on my cards-I've really enjoyed all yours as well. 'The Secret Life of Shadows/Objects' refers to Aaron Siskind's classic essay 'The Drama of Objects' [quoted on the cards], which is a superb statement of what metaphorical/abstract photography is all about. BTW he was friends with a lot of the Abstract Expressionists as well-the influences definitely went both ways here for sure! The object on the mantlepiece is one of the tools [IIRC] we were using at the time while rebuilding the house. Woke up early as I had a ferry to catch and the light was really nice so I ran off a roll of TX in my trusty C330 [is there an APUGGer who doesn't own one?] and got several very pleasing images.Still trying to organise the house pictures into a coherent series!

Before the long weekend two more arrived today.
Thanks to Art quite different a pantry on Polaroid, lot of beans Art .
"Adelaide Gaol" by Ozphoto a painful reminder of my youth and my mother trying to keep my teeth in good shape. Well executed image with a lot of detail.

Received Art's groceries today. I'm Nice trying to decide if it's a bachelor's emergency stash, or shelves in a mini-mart. Also received Jonathon's Bonsai photo. Very nice composition and tones. I'm wondering how big the hornbeam is.
Also received Tim's firephoto, Mike's clematis, and Crispin's gum trees this week. The fire photo would make an excellent advertisement for electric barbeques. Mike's clematis is airy and light, a really good exposure. I've never seen eucalyptus trees as tangled and crooked as in Crispin's photo, and it made me wonder how the firefighters deal with that during the frequent conflagrations they have down under.

Real life stuff got in the way, and I hate to say that I haven't even printed my cards up yet, so it will be somewhat late. Gonna be in the darkroom next week, and Ill get them out ASAP, sorry about the holdup. I've gotten some great cards so far.

Two more cards came in today.
First is a wonderfully inspiring image on IR film (I promised my self to try ) from MattKing and what a nice paper such a special feel to it. Excellent.

Second is from jbannow Emmet Co. Pines #1. Very nice perspective and detail. Post office placed a 1/2 "bar code on one side and wheel mark in the middle . But all in all well done. I do like ferns.

Thanks to Matt King for sending me a postcard even though I'm not on his list!! Love the Karsh stamp too! When I tried to buy some they were all out. Your image is so serene. I bet it would look great really large! Thanks! One is coming your way. Received Art'scool polaroid postcard of I'm guessing a food shelter. Correct me if I'm wrong. Always thought provoking Art!
Also receivedjbannow'sbeautiful image of a pine forest and some delicate ferns. I haven't listened to the audio clip yet but I will. Love Mick Fagan's image of a converted water tank made into a bathroom. What a creative use of a water tank. Ozphoto's image of an old dentist's chair is very interesting and full of detail. Enjoyed JonKing's image of a dead tree in the Arboretum Bonsai Garden in North Carolina. I'm guessing the trees under the trunk are alive and well. My favourite time of year to photograph trees is in winter. Tree branches can be so expressive.
Thanks everyone! I promise to get my cards mailed out in the next day or two because I'm on holidays. Been relaxing by reading and watching good movies! ( The Twilight series of books by Stephenie Meyer and an wonderful movie called, "Bella")

Mercy Required !

I am sending grovelling apologies to all members who have received nothing from me yet.

I ordered postcard paper over 4 weeks ago from our local shop (top class shop, but deliveries seem to have been mixed up - these things happen :confused: ) No end to the wait in sight, so bugger it I will tax my amateur brain and send something else this weekend.

Maybe we need an award for the most effort for a postcard.....I just received a postcard from J Truman..5x7 dryplate collodion....cyanotype....tea toned. I just have to wonder if the camera and lens were home brew I really love the tone of the image with its blue shadows and the sepia highlights...very striking and nicely done.

I have 12 out of 20 so far. All of my domestic ones have been sent. I hope they have all arrived OK. International ones are going out Saturday. Sorry to have taken so long. I kept running into snags. In the end, the prints are not quite as good as I would like (they are a bit too dark), but they are good enough, and it was great fun making the cards and receiving the cards.

By the way, everybody except for one lucky person got/will get an upside-down postcard from me! I couldn't see the markings in the dark.

Yesterday I received two more wonderful cards.
2F/F Keith you did not elaborate who the statue represents? and what equipment you have used? It is interesting to me to compare different papers and developers and how they effect the image. The lady sitting on the bench gives you an idea of the statues size. Well done. Canada could be cold but it has been mild for last ten years, global warming you know . It gets to -10 C so not really bad. What I don't like is the freezing rain staff that comes down occasionally. But I do like four seasons.
Matthijs I like this combination of Fomaspeed and Newtol beautiful tonality. Well exposed and printed.

Hi, Greg. Now I am really tempted to get on out of here. I really cannot handle the cold, which is one reason I want to stay. Here in L.A., we have had a mild summer, except for one three-day stretch that was over 100F.

As for the pic, thanks. That's a statue of Jackie Robinson's head. It was the last shot on a roll of HP5 I had shot walking and driving around L.A. The camera was a Nikon F Photomic T and the lens was a Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4. I exposed it meterless (the old averaging T meter is worse than guessing, IMO), using EI 500. It was about high noon on a very clear and very hot day, so it must have been '500 at f/16. I developed in Ilford HC 1:63 using my +1 time. The enlarging equipment was a Schneider Componon-S 2.8/50 mounted on a B22XL. Ilford Multigrade developer and Rapid Fixer.

To All:

I have received lots of wonderful cards. Initially there was a fairly steady stream being delivered by the US Post Office. However, the past 3 weeks has only brought 3 or 4 cards. I am beginning to think that the Post Office is culling my mail for all the fantastic images it is finding.

I look forward to hearing if anyone else has had a similar experience.
