I’ve received another 16 cards since I last shared my comments a long time ago. Here are my observations:

mooseontheloose - "Wat Remains" - Another wonderful Kodak HIE photo from Rachelle - evocative and beautifully toned
drpsilver - "Cairn, Macugnaga, Italy" - A stark image from Darwin that I really like
rince - "Fleeting Moment" - Excellent choice of the point of view
BoxBrownie - "Down by the Jetty" - This card looks wonderfully old fashioned - both in subject and tone
trsvax - "Rock'n in Austin" - When I saw the title, I thought it was going to be a concert shot
megzdad81 - Streamside Detail #4 - An interesting vignette, and it is well printed
JimO - "Sunshine Skyway sans Sunshine" - Wonderful sky
ChristopherCoy - "Beignettes for Breakfast" - Scrumptious . I particularly like the cropping.
delphine - "Rainy Day" - Tiny and precious - and I love the stand-up card
Oxleyroad - "Termite Mounds" - Really interesting and atmospheric
George Nova Scotia - "Picnic Time" - Excellent snow scene print - satisfyingly three dimensional
bluejeh - "Through the Window" - A complex image from a complex negative - well done
bluejeh2 - "Angel at Westminster Abbey" - Really like the details in this photograph
rst - "Louvre - detail" - Modern Geometric shapes with an historic background - very interesting
haslguitar - "Welcome Home, Mr. Contrast" - Makes me think of Hitchcock - I particularly like the high speed flying blur at the edge
mjs - "Man With His Horse" - I very much like the intersection of the horse and the man

So far, I’ve received cards from 20 participants, and am waiting on just 4 (adelorenzo, nicholai, Roger Thoms and Wayne Frederick).

Thanks everyone for participating.

Just like Matt, for me it has also been a long time since I commented on cards received, so here's an overdue update.

delphine has surprised me with a very ingenious constructed print with built-in photo stand. Lovely shot as well, despite or thanks to the weather. Goes to show that weather should not be limiting you when photographing.
JimO's Tampa Bay, love the clouds, nice composition.
haslguitar's photo reminds me of a certain film by a man named Hitchcock. Scary to think about it in that context. Great shot with the action of the bird moving in from the right.
The bluejeh's cards also arrived. Ed's angel with lots of detail, Judy's Through the window, the distorted reflection of the building shown in the window; both very nice.
rst, Louvre detail, this is what b&w was made for; shapes, materials, lights, shadows, absolutely great.
George Nova Scotia, the man who makes all this possible nowadays, had the idea of going on a picnic. In this weather? I don't think so! I can say we had a long winter over here, but when I see the amount of snow on this photo, then seeing you call it a light snowfall, well... then things are put into perspective once more.
mjs, a man and his horse, gives a nice view of the sesquincentennial parade.
Oxleyroad, last (for now) but not least, sent a great photo, lovely wide view on very nice paper. I was thinking stubs of trees at first, until I read the back. Okay, a bit more itchy than treestubs... Very nice panoramic view.

And with that, I'm just three cards short of a complete set for round 28. It's been another great round. Let's see if I can ...just for once... start early on round 29.

Over the past couple of weeks I've received interesting and lovely postcards from the bluejeh's and from someone else. One of my insufferable family of postcard thieves and packrats will have to return it before I can properly thank them, though.

Sorry I've missed the next round. Fiddling around trying to complete the new deck and other mundane tasks made me forget to sign up until it was, alas, too late.

Big Update from me. First for this round and for that I apologise. So much going on around me, I find it hard to sit down at a PC when I am at home. Have grabed a half hour or so this morning so here is my comments on all the cards I have rec'd this round.

22 from 30

Jim17x - A couple of ducks
anikin - Honest Officer. I too have seen things like this in rural areas of Australia. Where I grew up it was not uncommon for the freshly laid tarmac to be ripped up for the sewarge and stormwater drains to be laid. It was insane, but that was what would happen.
mooseontheloose - Wat Remains. Such a dreamy look to the image.
piu58 - Old Inn in Döbite
warejn - Utah.
BoxBrownie - Down by the Jetty. With this card the viewer feels as if they were there.
drpsilver - Cairn, Macugnaga, Italy.
rince - Fleeting moment
hankins27 - Old Church
Ozphoto - Drew. Framed well for the portrait shot.
trsvax - Rock'n in Austin. Great play on words.
kraker - Bustling or Empty. Like this old paper. Like the framing of the image.
MattKing - At the end of the Dock. A card that has drawn all of the attention of guests to my home.
Jimo - Tampa Bay. Great greys and shapes in the clouds. I would have liked a little more contrast.
Delphine - Rainy Day. What a great idea to make a stand up post card. The first time I have seen this done.
George Nova Scotia - Victoria Park. Looks like this scene was created as it is so perfect.
mjs - Man with his horse.
bluejeh - Through the Window. I liked the distorted view inside the room.
bluejeh2 - Angel at Westminster Abbey Mission.
has1guitar - Welcome Home.
? #1 - Streamside detail 4. If the goal was to get the image to glow like the images in the galleries, then in my opinion you have.
? #2 - Breakfast. I like the angle from which the image has been recorded.

Thanks to everyone for some great pictures. Glad I signed up for the next round as I can't wait for the pictures to start coming in. Sorry for not taking the time to try an identify the two without names, just no time to go back through the postings.

I finally got my cards out today. I sent out the international cards with insufficient postage, so I sent a second card to each with correct postage; some of you may get both cards. My fault for not paying attention (am getting old). Anyhow many thanks for all of your cards; here are some comments on the cards I have received. To those missing from this list I know that most of you have sent your cards, but unfortunately they did not reach me.

ChristopherCoy "Beignets for Breakfast"

This is a nice abstract print, with a hint of warm tone, an action shot with a severely cropped face (nose and mouth only (with a smile?)

MattKing "At The End of The Dock"

Well done-I really like reflections of trees in water. The tack sharp dock is nice for contrast, and the water is mysterious.

bluejeh2 "Angel at Westminster Abbey Mission, B. C."

Good closely cropped image of sculpture. I like the slight asymmetry and the grating- like square shapes in the upper corners.

bluejeh "Through the Window"

Nice abstraction- each window pane is different-the regularity of the stone wall helps the composition- reminds me of "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari".

anikin

HAHA very funny! I like this sort of snapshot. The users of the electric power at the end of this transmission line should prepare for an imminent outage.

haslguitar "Welcome Home Mr. Contrast"

Nice spooky picture of an otherwise benign bird behavior. I think this might be neat if enlarged to 16x20 or even bigger.

Jim17x "A Couple Ducks"

Great tonality and fine grain. I like the overhanging branches.

GeorgeNovaScotia "Shadows on Snow"

Nice subtle treatment of the contrast. I like how the lines get more complicated on the right.

trsvax "Rock'n in Austin"

The stump is a nice idea; the lighter rocks in the foreground are interesting.

delphine "Rainy Day"

Great abstract print, I like the small size.

Ozphoto "Drew"

Well done portrait and interesting story.

rince "Fleeting Moment"

Locks and chains are great symbols that appeal to me. I like how the blurred background grayness seems to be grabbing at the lock from below.

Oxleyroad "Termite Mounds"

Nice gritty feel to this print. I like the blue-black tone.

megzdad81 "Streamside Detail 4"

I like this print-I am fond of water and rocks and streams. Keep working on the "glow"- try as many different combinations of paper/developer as you can afford.

Mike Wilde 3 images printed on old paper

All of these are nicely printed. The Veteran's Memorial is somber, the Capitol has nice tonality, and Avra is humorous. I like using up old paper and film and am often surprised by the results.

23/30 for this round.

Today a card from Wayne Frederick arrived. Wonderfully framed picture of a massive dog kite. Such a thin a thin photo paper has survived really well. While there is some motion blurr the image is otherwise razor sharp with vivid whites and deep blacks. Thanks

Received Wayne Frederick's 'Snoopy on a Tether' (my title) today. Great photo--I just don't get how you guys/gals can get such good prints out of outdated paper. I guess mine is not only outdated but also cooked.

Wayne Frederick I received one and a half copies of Snoopy on a Tether on the same day. The half ( which happened to be the one with my full address on) came in a plastic bag from my mail organization saying sorry that the product was damamged in the mail stream. Perhaps the other half made it's way back to the maker, who sent me a second print?
I quite like it.

Uwe Pilz A dreamy quite nice coffee toned image of a Scottish thisle, I think.
Nice. I have yet the time to take in the detial. I just wanted to let you know from this brief comment it had arrived.

Wayne Frederick. Got my second complete picture of the dog kite. I really have been spoilt. Now my two kids 7 & 5 can each have their own as they both love the picture. If I got two who missed out?

Sorry for the late post, but I've been dealing with neck surgery, pain meds, and a really nasty brace for a couple of months. I wanted to acknowledge some post cards that I don't quite remember them coming in:

Rudiger--'Louvre Detail' -- neat, and one day I hope to see it in person

haslguitar--'Welcome Home, Mr. Contrast'--reminded me a lot of when I lived in Indiana. Usually when the last bird arrived, the whole flock would take off in
a swirl, so there must have been some more stragglers ...

Wayne Frederick -- 'Huge Dog Comes In for a Landing' -- the print looks great--I am constantly amazed at the performance of out of date paper with APUG photographers. When my paper goes out of date it becomes irretrievably fogged over night ...

If I have missed anyone else, I can't locate them, but I enjoyed all I received--they were nice respites while laid up.

Matt, I was catching up on late cards from #28 and my late responses--I don't respond well to major surgery.

Hi Everyone,

I am truly sorry that my cards did not get to you yet. I'm sure nobody signs up for one of these things with the intention of messing it up, at least I sure didn't. It's been a bit of a struggle for me with photography the past six months but I think I'm back on track.

Where that leaves us is I still owe 30 people postcards and, in the words of Robert W. Service, a promise made is a debt unpaid. The good news is I have 30 prints drying downstairs and will be mailing them out this week. If you are expecting one and your address has changed since April please PM me.

I also have a stack of awesome postcards to comment on, will do that once mine are in the mail.

Regards,
Anthony

Anthony, let me be the first one to comment on the promise made. I just wanted to get started on commenting on the round #30 cards today, when I received your beautiful waterfall print. Lovely dreamy shot, well printed, and… upon seeing and feeling this paper, reading the details... I am reminded that I still have a full box minus 2 of this beautiful paper, waiting to be used. I should really give the Ilford Art 300 a try soon!

Thank you, your debt is paid! Well worth the wait, this one.
