Photo from my first attempt to shoot movie film. Colors after the scan looked a bit off, but after some fiddling I managed to get a few interesting shots from the roll. That is one of them. Focus is a bit off on that one.

Canon EOS-1V + EF35mm f/1.4L USM + Kodak Vision 3 250D @ ƒ/2.0, 1/500, EI200 (Nikon Scan + ACR + PS)

Portra 160
Nikon F4, 85mm 1.8, cropped to level it (have to shoot without the camera to my face to get them staring. Works with dogs, too), crappy lab scan.

That should be useful for blackmail purposes in about fifteen years...

Exactly my thoughts when I pulled the camera out.

This is some good friends' first baby, possibly their only, and they are a little nuts about the milestones like birthdays. I did a shot with Santa last Thanksgiving when she was an infant -- posted a sample upthread. Mom prefers the clean, pretty pics right now, but my favorite portraits tell a story. They'll appreciate the bug eyed shot of a baby trailing a line of drool a few years from now, I'm sure of it.

This is the one I took for the Mom (obviously BEFORE the cake):

So, I got asked to take Santa photos again this year. My favorite:

I kid, I kid.

I have a few like this I'll color correct and give to the parents:

You did good. Beautiful model, and you managed to get some beautiful colors from that film.

Great! Weird, but great. Arm looks out of place in a good way, did you pose her? Yes beautiful and lovely eyes.

She was a part time model, and this was at a photo shoot that we arranged through my Darkroom Group.
And we tried a number of different poses.
She was great to work with as a model - a lot of fun - and a really interesting person.
In her day job she worked as a mathematician doing statistical analysis, so we got to talk mathematics too - I was way out of my league!
This one was more fun:

I don’t usually shoot portraits but this guy saw my camera and asked me to take his picture. Leica IIIf with Summitar 5cm f/2. Ilford FP4+ developed in beer.

Did you drink the beer after the development? Interested readers want to know!

Mathematicians seem to have gotten better looking since I was in college...

Beer is very much NOT improved by adding washing soda... Nor is coffee.

No, as Donald said, adding washing soda, ascorbic acid and salt does not improve it. Plus, I start out with cheap crappy beer that I wouldn't drink anyhow.

Milwaukee’s Best?

I live near Seattle so I often use Rainier, on of our local cheap beers. Sometimes friends leave Pabst at my house, that's a good one for developing. For drinking I prefer a Stout or Porter.
