I can only seem to find pictures of gargoyles and nothing else, but I know that I've shot the cathedral more than that, especially at night. I'm going to have to go through my negative more thoroughly when I have time.

198201 European Slides - part 2 2017-02-20-0012 by DuBose Medlock, on Flickr

198201 European Slides - part 2 2017-02-20-0013 by DuBose Medlock, on Flickr

These are not great technical images, but were taken on a college trip to Europe in January 1982 with a Yashica MG-1 with Kodachrome 64. It was a cloudy overcast day, and the Yashica automatic exposure didn;t do a good job in these conditions.
I have more recent digital images from 2009 which are higher technical quality, but I felt the age of these photographs more appropriate : although 37 years is just a blip in the history of this building.

Pentaxuser, actually I cheated and the tone is a Photoshop creation. I found the original unpleasing so I warmed up the tone using Adobe Camera Raw. I grew up with large Etchings of Rouen and Bristol Cathedrals in our house done by a great uncle. I wanted to try to replicate the tonal effect of those works from the early twentieth century.
Thanks for reply. I live in hopes that the new Adox paper to replace Forte Polywarmtone might achieve this look. If I could get this look with a darkroom print I might be tempted to "convert" to WT paper and hang the expense:D

Unfortunately I doubt that sepia could be this subtle without risking a hint of yellow in it

I once could get a similar tone, though not as intense, from Agfa Portriga developed in GAF Ardol developer. Sadly both are long gone.

Great pictures by everyone! Unfortunately, my 1964 negatives of Norte Dame just went up in flames almost at the same time as the cathedral. Fire in my office.
What could be bad news.French president Macron stated that reconstruction of the cathedral would begin and “it will be more beautiful”. When politicians talk like this there is always the danger that they are going to “modernize”. Living in New Jersey, this kind of talk usually means more than a few Francs will end up in the president’s Cyprus account.
Destruction during renovation is apparently quite common. The church associated with my daughter’s grade school burned.Another church in our town burned during renovation. And a very old church in my home town burned during renovation.

Great mood - like from an old film by Truffaut!

Beautiful work!

Agreed! I'm so impressed by all the photos in this thread.

Here is my modest contribution: a poor scan of a 6×6 Kodachrome taken with a Rolleiflex 3.5E with Xenotar lens. 2001 was the last year that the lab in UK would process the medium format Kodachrome, and during a trip to Greece, Albania, and France, I used my remaining rolls. I was at a temporary loss on how to scan it. The slides are mounted, and the holders on my film scanner are not wide enough to accept the cardboard mounts. I did not want to unmount and then remount. Finally, I placed the slide in the edge of an Epson 4×5 holder and used my Epson flat-bed scanner at 2400 dpi. It sort-of works. Another project pending. 2001 - sigh. Once we were young, thin, healthy, and had dark hair.
