It's a challenge to get my borders right with this emulsion!

Ha, I actually “read” Pt/Pd as kind of a jumped-up silver gelatin, so I appreciate clean borders. (You can mask with low-tack art tape when coating and get a bit more brut with the edges.)

At any rate, I’ll be interested if the juice remains worth the squeeze in terms of process—I wouldn’t walk away, though, before trying heating your developer to kick the print over to the warm side.

I also worry any masking I do won't be even, which I think could be even more distracting...will have to try some things.

I think it's worth the squeeze especially when looking at the print in person. The developer that came with the kit is sodium acetate based and it definitely yields a more neutral tone and it's not until the other steps in the process where I get the brown kallitype appearance, which is then changed again from the platinum toning. When hung to dry the print does have a warmer tone to it but that seems to become more neutral the more the print dries. As of now there is still some visible warmth that is hard to capture in the scan. Sometime soon I'll mix up a sodium citrate developer soon along with a sodium thiosulfate fixer(not seeing much evolution in the print when fixing with EDTA. First, I gotta sort out what's happened to the backing of my print frame that's causing a blurred edge in some of the prints.

Excellent, thanks for showing the drying print—the original is definitely one that’s hard to appreciate on-screen since there’s such a discrepancy in brightness between the sky and foreground that the shadow detail seems crushed. The tonal range definitely comes across better in the one on the clothesline.

FWIW, if you’ve not yet, you might check out Bill Schwab‘s YT videos—y’all seem to working the same side of the street.

I did happen across some of Bill's videos recently. Went back to check more yesterday and saw the one he did about masking, so I gave it a try 😀

Ha, Bill definitely takes the belt+suspender approach, but I think it fits his “classical” subject matter. BTW, I saw you managed to find the photogravure on FB—it didn’t get the love it deserved at first, but hopefully you can see why I was nudging that direction.

Callanish Standing Stones, Isle of Lewis, Scotland (revised)

Very dramatic sky! I'm not sure if the flat lighting of the foreground goes convincingly with it. Maybe you could tune down a bit on the differences between the layers. Also, the stones show wormy structures when viewed in full resolution. A little bit less of everything could enhance the picture maybe.
