Weren’t these the stairs used by Walt Disney for the sorcerer’s apprentice?

No idea, but they are frequently used in films. In fact, the only reason the door at the top was open is because there was a shoot going on and the room was being used as a dressing room. I was working around people in medieval costumes all day. They were very accommodating. A problem with shooting 4x5 around people is they see you under the dark cloth and believe you are shooting, so they will stop and not walk in front of the camera, but will not hesitate to walk in front when you are standing next to the camera, not looking through it, and are actually shooting.

I don't know about Disney, but I have seen a picture, a platinum print, by Frederick H Evans from 1903 called "A Sea Of Steps".

I had a discussion with one of the custodians at Wells about that portion of the stairs in Evan's photograph and how it appeared more worn in Evans image. Did the cathedral repaired the stairs sometime in the past 100 years? The custodian didn't think so. I did. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a copy of Evan's image in the gift shop. Sometime later, I ran across a photographer who re-produced the Evans image in 1999.
