What developer did you use? That could be a factor. Also the way they have been scanned and post-processed may be exaggerating the grain.

I use replenished XTOL, but almost any black & white developer will do.

Here are a couple from the other day of developing. One from my Zeiss Ikon Box-Tengor 56/2 and the other from my Bronica EC-TL using Catlabs X Film 320 Pro.

I confess the Moon capture was a complete accident. When we first arrive at the park we walked to the dock to look around. I noticed the Moon across the river but soon forgot about it. When editing the image in LRc I thought it was a large dust spot. The Moon is about a 1/3 of the way down on the right side of the image, close to a cypress branch. A happy accident!

I will look into some of them. I saw that there were literally hundreds of black-and-white developers, and I have done a lot of chemical surface processing of metal parts for the machine shop (I owned and ran a machine shop, now I teach machine tool and engineering) so handling chemicals isn't a problem-for me it's just the storage of the chemicals. My current place is small and shared so I don't have room for a real darkroom, just my changing bag. My grandad has been encouraging about being able to do developing with just the changing bag, so it looks like I'll learn developing in late august or september. (School starts in 2 weeks...)

I have a kit for making 1-quart for each bath. You would be limited in the size of tank you could use, but it sounds like it would fit your living situation. I got it free and am committed to a home-brewed D76 replenishment scheme so I just won't be using it. PM me with your address and I would be happy to pass it along. It's great that you're working with your grandad.
