I just paid for a fisheye lens because the price was just too good to pass up. I guess this is my GAS for the year. I have avoided buying one in the past because I do not like taking photographs of the tops of my shoes. Heck, I have to be really careful when I use the SWC or hold my WideLux F7 vertically. So your assignment, should you wish to take it, is to post examples of your extreme wide angle and fisheye photographs here, so I can get some ideas and be wowed by your creativity.

And yes, work from skate boarders will be greatly appreciated.

Good luck! I would like a 30mm if I had a Hassy film body. I have an old SWC, but sold my 500CM. The SWC is 38mm. I'd like it wider, but it is what I got. (Not extreme enuf for me.)

I got a Hassy wide angle book. When I scan it I will post it for you.

That SWC is a fantastic cam. One of my favs beside the Leica M6 and Nikon F.

Nowadays, all my circular fisheye pix are digital. I had a few circle film pix from the 80's but lost em. They were nothing special. Back then I shot circular as a novelty...as an afterthought.

...the way to shoot circle fisheye is as the first, foremost and only thought.

I can't really afford a wide angle lens so I glued a $1 cellphone fisheye to a disposable camera loaded up with the funkiest expired Tri-X I got.

Sirius, I just bought a 50mm lens for the Hasselblad and am still wondering: What do I need a WA lens for. Most instructions in photography say "move in closer". I absolutely refuse to sit on anyone's lap to shoot their picture. Far better to use the 250mm lens, assuming the shutter is accurate. With your "fish-eye', how will you throw the background out-of-focus? I also don't like having to clean my fingernails before I shoot or, as you point out, shine my shoes.......Regards!

I'm definitely not Sirius, but at least 2/3 of the far too many lenses I own for far too many cameras are wider than "normal" lenses.
Wide angle lenses give you the power to choose the relationship between items in the scene - to emphasize some, and de-emphasize others.
This is only a 45mm on 6x4.5, but I think you'll get the idea:

For landscape or interiors, the two lenses I use most often are the 38mm (SWC) and 50/4 CF FLE. I love the 50 for landscape.

It really depends on the photographer and their style and subject. In 35mm format, I refuse to shoot wider than 28mm (I like 50mm to 105mm), but an acquaintance makes amazing natural looking photos with 14mm.

Interiors and in cities. I found it especially useful in Europe for street scenes and architecture because the 80mm is really much too long. In fact I rarely use my 80mm in Europe.
