Taken on some XX no doubt OLD; Dichroic fog level fairly high. With short ends you take what you can get. The dichroic fog does jack with the print contrast. Can't get real DMax out of it, but usuable This was shot in full key sun around the corner from Midwest Photo Exchange, when they were still on High St

This won't qualify as the best photo ever taken, but it is from (almost) the first roll of film I shot in over 20 years. Ilford XP2, taken a couple days before Thanksgiving, 2020. I was awfully proud of this exposure when it came back from the lab.

** By "almost" I mean, the first roll I didn't ruin because I misread my light meter like a doofus. I think this was the third roll through the camera, and the first night shot that I got right.

If you are interested in night photography, I highly recommend the Jiffy Night Calculator which I have been using since 1963 when I was using it for slides.

Many thanks. This sort of thing is exactly why I decided to post stuff on the photrio instead of just lurking.

And, yes, I am interested. My night photography has been all digital until 8 months ago, but I find it fun and challenging. I am fascinated with how some film handles the highlights so much better than digital. I took a similar shot to that B&W a week later on Ektar and Portra in blue hour, and have experimented some since, but not as much as I had planned. I want to get back to night shots more.

NIght photography is much easier and easier to do with film.

Excellent. Lindisfarne has been on my to-visit list for ages.

It's definitely a must see if only from a historical perspective. I've been fortunate enough to have visited twice. The first time, it rained the entire time (above and earlier causeway image). and the second time it was windy with blown out skies. The first had admittedly better mood and an added advantage of no people.

You made good use of bad light. I like the moodiness and how it fades to white here.

Reminds me of a trip to Venice when I was in Mestre for work. Hated it. crowded and awful... except for a Sunday night in the rain. Enjoyed the heck out of that, walking around, no crowds, weird wet streets. Really could have used a tripod, though. Oh well.

Not to start a tangent, but modern sensors are very good at long, low-noise exposures. I've got a 13 second, f/5.0 exposure at ISO 25600 (!!) where the noise is comparable to ISO 800 CN grain. If I have a complaint, it's that the scene is too bright-- ISO 6400 would have been a better choice.
