The last known (to me) direct positive paper was produced by Harman (Ilford) but they announced that this product was “suspended,” that is, they're not producing it any more but they hope to bring it back at some point in the future. The suspension is due to the bankruptcy of Ilford Switzerland which was the actual producer of the product. Now I see ads for a product called Imago Direct Positive Paper produced by Ilford Switzerland (see Google:"direct positive paper"). Huh? I guess this must be remaining stocks but why are they calling it “Imago” and not Harman or Ilford?

Anyway, I see ads like this ...

… that claim things like “Black and white paper with an ILFOCHROME look” (huh?) and other great things but is it real? If I buy it will I really get this paper? Anybody know?

Ilford/Harman are working in re-introducing their Direct positive paper, I think the link is to a paper made for Imago by the old Ilford factory in Switzerland most likely using the same or very similar emulsion. Stocks must be quite small. It's the same as Ilford making paper for Berrgger etc or films for Fuji.

I bought some Harman Direct Positive paper 3 or 4 weeks before Christmas and the seller had more which I'll possibly buy this week if he's still got it.

I bought a pack in 4x5 last week, haven't gotten it yet (I should really pay for it for a start :whistling: ). It's more expensive than the ilford stuff, and on RC paper. The seller I was sourcing it from can also get the ilford stuff I think, cheaper (at least the last time he got it for someone) and on fibre. Ilford have talked about trying to re-introduce it, I think there's some comment by Simon Galley somewhere on APUG.

This is interesting. I would like to try some of this out sometime as I did do some experiments with some black and white positive paper in the past. Perhaps Simon can shed some light on the subject?
