Portra 400 film has very grainy shadows - seems unusual

So I have a question about these photos. I'm going to share them and hope that it's enough for someone to asses and tell me some of the probable causes. Just looks like unusual grain - maybe i'm wrong?

I've noticed grain in the shadows with some scanners (for some reason I saw it on a few rolls with my Nikon Coolscan V on Nikon Scan).

The main other reason if it's not your scan is that you underexposed or the film is expired and has lost speed/has base fog.

Were these lab processed/scanned or? Immediate reaction is that they look underexposed (except the motorcycle shot which looks fine aside from the blue spot in the bottom left (processing error?)).

Look at the shadows in your negs. They are probably under exposed. When under exposed the shadows will have increased grain because there is very little dye density. When there is more exposure there are multiple layers of dye so the grain smooths (integrates) out. The scanning was nicely done. I scanned this for a friend with a noritsu ls 600- he said he left the film in the sun so maybe that did it? Or maybe it was under exposed? I don't know though, the whole roll does not look like this, only these couple of photos

Idk where he got it processed but he said it was a cheap place, but even if it was cheap idk what htey could have don to his film to get it to get like this. The most reasonable answer so far seems like what Laser had to say

Underexposure will definitely have that effect.
