some folks in US are trying to milk the cow, selling polypan f way above the european price.
nothing outrageous about facing up to the american dream - the folks wants you buying double-x.

$80 for 152M (nearly 500 feet) is very cheap indeed surely?

Some people may have missed the 2nd quote?
But at 80 USD for 500 foot it is not a replacement for 5222 or Orwo cine which are both premium negative films. It would need to be a lot cheaper?
Jolly unfair for the frogs to invent their own measures and currency?

Huh? Just looked at the sight again, it's $80 for 100 feet of polypanf also, no mention of Meters.

Sorry thanks you are correct but it must be a mistake?
It will 'never' sell more expensive than factory bulk Ilford or kodak...
The euroland price is 56eu for 150m which may fit into a 100 foot bulk loader cause it is PET, donno. I thought 56 was expensive for 150m of poly. The Agfa APS400S I use was 5GBP for 68m and is prehardened still using it.
The other site is respooling 5222 (Double-X) and polypan but is not using the same markup for this service, oops. Cheaper getting 400 foot of 5222: easy to respool in gbag. If I can do that you could: note Im handicapped.
5222 is the pinnacle of Kodak's non tabular process.

We agree on something.

Did you buy into the special Double-X 4x5 sheet order? I know the price was higher than expected but we are close to an order, less than 10 orders left needed for kodak to start cutting.

I agree, that is rather expensive. On the other hand, B&H charges $43 to send a roll of Tri-X to Germany. Cross-Atlantic shipping can be costly if you don't optimize for it, like Freestyle have done and B&H and Lumiere haven't.

You are right. I looked intensively over their side, glanced over their legal terms, but did not realize their shipping costs were to be estimated after those terms, and I rather thought they would have to be called for. A bad place to put them, at least for people like me.

Sourcing and bulk-loading all those uncommon films will be a fair bit of work. They sell regular films at perfectly reasonable prices.

If I want to try some of their strange films my options are either to buy a roll or three from FPP or Labeuratoire and pay their markup, or I can buy a bulk roll if that is economically and practically possible. Then if I don't like the film I have an expensive opened bulk roll.

Using bulk film is simply a choice made between 50m of film in cassettes or 150m in a can.

For what?
It's not relevant what I consider to be a fair price for anything, whether it's film sold by filmphotographyproject or any other product sold by anyone else.
I won't buy from them, but I have no axe to grind.
If you think their prices are fair, and are happy to pay them, that's fine.

Three days ago I emailed this Lumiere company with questions about the film. They have YET to respond.

Places like the film photography project (I am not singling them out here) simply try to find a niche where prices are low abroad and then try to sell for FULL US anticipated price for similar film. Wall Street calls this tactic 'arbitrage'. In summation, getting it 'cheap', when all is said and done, will not happen. - David Lyga

Difficult they are shipping 150m packed from a distributor in Germany and splitting it into 30m spools or cores.

So there is postage time and packaging.

If you are using a bulk loader or a dark room you can do the respool your self winding 30m takes about 45 minutes!

Because it is PET base you might get 60m or so on a cine spool (which came with Fugi or Agfa bulk film) when you fill the spool drop it into bulk loader (or spool cans if you are doing all 150m at one sitting & tape up cans.) You can buy spools and cans on eBay.

So order from Germany is best but you can do sums for trade offs with your postal costs.

But 400 foot of 5222 (double-x) or a short end may/will be cheaper and double-x is Kodak's nicest film ISO 250 in D76 grain little larger than Plus-x but non tabular. Soup in Microphen at ISO 320 20C 7 mins for low contrast.

The only snag with 5222 is it is thick base for cine cams and 33 frames is safer than 36 with some types of cassettes.

There are large numbers using 5222.

Poly pan is horrible YMMV of course light pipes, burns highlights and needs care in processing.

You stated that you think they are overpriced. At what price point would they, in your opinion, not be overpriced?

They've dropped the price to $40 for 100ft of Polypan F.

The worst film ever made. Why do people use that sheet when Kodak snd Ilford offer the BEST there is?

I remember having 1000 feet of that stuff. One day, in disgust, I opened the cans in broad daylight and felt totally liberated. Felt as relieved as when I throw stinky garbage in the bin.
