Damn Bjorke, you blew it! I wanted people to dismiss her as inconsequential fluff and then see them wade through Socratic ironic terror as they realize what her agenda was. Now I'll have to find a better way to kindle the fires of error.
Well at least I did it politely.

The most impolite word on almost any internet photo site (to be spoken in hushed tones, as if it were in the ancient language of Mordor) is kitsch.

Also, there are some bloody awful Mickey Mouse dictionaries around.

R. (proud owner of a 2nd edition OED -- where you need to be able to read and write above infants' school level BEFORE you attempt to read it)

FWIW, the OED just announced today that it was sanctioning a new word: "mcjob" - a low wage, low likelihood of advancement employment position, usually found in the service sector.

Imagine that, "mcjob" an official word. Where's the rodent?

"So I have two choices: I can either do these images from a speeding car, or I can stand there with a blanket over my head, and look like such a prick that somebody's going to find me through their rifle scope and think: Oh! What's that? Let's go down and have a look... I can’t believe that photographers go into war zones dressed like soldiers! Soldiers are the people they shoot at. If I could wear a clown suit I would do it – if I could wear the big shoes and everything. I would wear the whole fucking thing.

I think there's a lot to be said for that, actually, because I can either scrape in there on my belly, wearing camo, and sneak around; or I can stand right there in front, wearing a shirt that says, you know, Don't shoot me. I’m a dick."

I've come to this quite late and haven't got the concentration to wade through 11 pages of replies, but I have just recently become familiar with Simon Norfolk's work, and after reading this interview, he's given me a bit of inspiration. I think he is direct and to the point - I understand more clearly what he says than some other photographer's I've heard / read.

Walking around Baghdad with a 4x5 camera? That takes some balls. his style of photojournalism is much more interesting than wide angle shots of mothers crying in front of bombed out houses. (not to make mothers crying in front of bombed out houses seem insignificant)

McDonalds is going to war with the OED over this. I'm not kidding. Yeah, that's a PR winner for them...

Here's the story: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6469707.stm

Won't make any difference to me, I have no interest in eating food kept luke warm for half an hour before I eat it which was cooked and prepared by 16 yr old part timers who are amazed at how clean the buns get their fingernails.

Yes; they are famously geniuses at PR. I heard one of their spokesment on Radio 4 a couple of days ago. In the background you could hear the quiet rustle of the BBC paying out all the rope he needed to hang himself, inch by inch, as he asked for it.

Cheers,

R.

Here we go again - "McProspects ... Over half of our executive team started in our resturants".

Very possibly true - would the PR "Spinners" lie?

But ... My first question would be: "In what capacity?" How many of those were truly "Hamburger McFlippers", and how many were assigned to the "Executive Training Program"? - or some other "Fast Track for the Chosen Ones" program?

A far more meaningful statistic would be the ratio of those who started at minimum wage and less than 20 hours per week - complete with mop, pail and headset; compared with the number of those who finally progressed to "Executive Status", (hopefully carrying with it a decent Executive Salary)."

I'd be willing to bet that data is buried DEEP in the McSecret Archlves".

As is the case with many well-educated folk, Roger fails to understand two fundamental concepts of PR.

1) "There is no such thing as bad publicity."

2) Most folks are not "well-educated". All you want is name exposure!

What some may think is "paying out all the rope...." is actually "air time", and better yet "free air time".

After all, if McDonalds is so stupid at PR - why are they so successful?

One exception: your obituary

I don't know, your heirs probably like what it might do for the value of your photographs .
